‘Jerry [Jones] Knows He Can’t Be Dilly-Dallying Around’ — Broncos Legend Shannon Sharpe Makes Opinion Clear on Cowboys’ Broderick Jones Trade

Shannon Sharpe shared his opinion on a trade between the Dallas Cowboys and the Pittsburgh Steelers before the 2026 NFL season.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are making their final roster decisions prior to Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season. Pittsburgh has ended its preseason slate of games. Now, the hard part begins, and one pillar fell on Saturday with the trade of Broderick Jones to the Dallas Cowboys.

The Steelers elected to trade Jones after three seasons with the team. The Georgia product did not have the best time in the Steel City. Now, he has a chance to re-establish his value with the Cowboys.

Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe was among those who outlined their opinion as the football world discussed the trade on social media.

Shannon Sharpe Provides His Reaction To Cowboys’ Broderick Jones Trade

Sharpe hosted an episode of his “Nightcap” podcast with former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson and former NBA star Joe Johnson. During this weekend’s episode, Sharpe made his feelings on this trade quite clear.

“I will give Jerry (Jones) credit this year. I think he’s gone above and beyond. He’s still out there trying to make sure this team has what it takes, has everything it needs. Jerry knows he can’t be dilly-dallying around,” Sharpe said.

Jones had a rough go of things in 2025 after becoming the starting left tackle for the Steelers. He struggled mightily in pass protection and had his season cut short due to injury.

He has experience playing right tackle in the NFL. However, this did not go well for the new Cowboys lineman either. He allowed 11 sacks in 2024 as the Steelers’ starting right tackle.

Still, Dallas evidently believes it can extract value out of the 25-year-old. They traded a third- and a sixth-round pick to Pittsburgh to land the former Georgia star.

After Dallas’s preseason game on Friday, Jerry Jones was asked about the depth at the tackle position. He mentioned that they have a plan and that the competition at the position was not complete just yet.

“We’ve seen some guys that we might make some shifting around if it called for it,” Jones said, via Cowboys staff writer Tommy Yarrish. “But we’ve got a good plan. We’ll see where we go from here; it’s not over yet.”

Dallas is hoping this move provides the insurance they need in the event of a significant injury. Broderick Jones is just 25 years old, so there is a developmental aspect to this trade as well.

The Cowboys begin their 2026 regular season on September 13 against the New York Giants.
