The New York Giants selected Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft with the 105th overall pick.
Following the pick, we look at how Skattebo might fit into the Giants’ RB rotation in his rookie year.
Giants Select Cam Skattebo in 4th Round of 2025 NFL Draft
The Giants needed help at running back, and they found it early in Round 4. They found their missing puzzle piece with Arizona State’s Skattebo with the 105th overall pick. Skattebo is the highest New York has taken a running back since Saquon Barkley (second overall in 2018).
With this selection, he joins a backfield led by Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Devin Singletary, giving the team a much-needed boost. Viewed as one of the best running backs in the 2025 NFL Draft, Skattebo was widely projected as a late Day 2 or early Day 3 pick.
Unfortunately, he slipped on Day 3 even though six running backs were taken in the first three rounds. While the Giants still have ground to make up against the Washington Commanders and Philadelphia Eagles, the additions of Jaxson Dart and Skattebo could help make the NFC East race much more competitive.
Cam Skattebo
Skattebo is at the top of this list because of his new teammates’ struggles they faced last season. The Giants finished 30th in offensive yards in 2024.
If we compare Skattebo’s 2024 stats, his new teammate’s numbers look underwhelming. He rushed for 1,712 yards, 1,202 of which came after contact, while forcing 103 missed tackles.
His perseverance was on full display during the Peach Bowl, where he battled illness, even vomiting on the sideline, while racking up 242 total yards and two touchdowns in an overtime loss to Texas. Although the Giants are expected to maintain a rotation at running back, Skattebo should have an excellent opportunity to emerge as the backfield leader.
Tyrone Tracy Jr.
As a rookie, Tracy had a slow start in the 2024 season, playing only a third of the Giants’ offensive snaps through the first month. Nevertheless, the 2024 fifth-round pick stepped up significantly after the veteran Singletary’s injury.
Tracy averaged nearly 14 carries per game over the final 13 games, finishing with 1,100 scrimmage yards. Following his impressive late-season performance, Tracy may earn a bigger role in the team’s offense in 2025.
Devin Singletary
Singletary opened the 2024 season as the Giants’ starting running back. However, he saw his role shrink after a groin injury sidelined him for Weeks 5 and 6.
Combined with early-season fumbling issues, the door opened for the rookie Tracy to take over. He did return from his injury but never logged more than eight carries in a game.
With a new addition to the team, Singletary currently stands to have an opportunity on the field in some capacity.
