‘His Future’s Not in Jeopardy’ — NFL Insider Gets Brutally Honest on Mike Vrabel’s Job Security Amid Dianna Russini Scandal

NFL insider John McClain revealed why Mike Vrabel is unlikely to lose his job despite the distractions surrounding his situation with Dianna Russini.

The Mike Vrabel-Dianna Russini saga has become the defining story of the NFL offseason. What began with photos of the two at an Arizona resort has spiraled into a constant stream of new images and details about them.

Russini resigned from The Athletic amid an internal investigation, and Vrabel missed the third day of the 2026 NFL Draft to attend counseling. As a result, many believe the head coach is at risk of losing his job, but NFL insider John McClain dismissed those rumors.

Mike Vrabel’s Job Appears to be Safe in New England

As photos continue to surface, including images from a 2020 encounter at a New York City bar, some media voices have openly predicted that the pressure on Vrabel may become untenable before training camp.

Despite the noise, the general perception of Vrabel in New England has not changed. He took a team that went 4-13 in 2024 and led it to a 14-3 record and a Super Bowl 60 appearance in his first season, one of the greatest single-year turnarounds in NFL history.

McClain reinforced that view during an appearance on Outkick Hot Mic, offering a blunt assessment of Vrabel’s job security.

“His future’s not in jeopardy,” McClain said. “What’s going to happen? Is Robert Kraft going to fire him for morals? I don’t think so. And the fans love him, the media loves him… He did a great coaching job last season. There’s a lot of guys who have survived and thrived after extramarital affairs. It’s going to affect her far more than it’ll affect him.”

However, McClain didn’t show pity for either party and hinted at what awaits Vrabel once the regular season begins.

“I don’t feel sorry for them, they created this problem,” he added. “But I think as long as it keeps getting attention and clicks on websites, people will still look for every morsel of information. And I’ll tell you what, their first road game to Buffalo or the Jets, I would love to come out of the tunnel right behind Mike Vrabel just to listen to what people will scream at him because he’s going to have to put up with so much on the road.”

McClain’s observation about the unequal consequences has been the underlying theme throughout the situation. Russini hasn’t spoken publicly since her resignation letter and remains out of work with no clear path back into the NFL media.

Vrabel, meanwhile, recently received a standing ovation from Patriots season ticket holders in his first public appearance since the draft.

It proves that as long as Vrabel keeps winning, and as long as nothing more damaging surfaces, the support from the Patriots and the fan base will hold. The 50-year-old head coach will face relentless scrutiny once the regular season begins, and how he navigates through it remains to be seen.
