The Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini scandal has taken the NFL world by storm. Over the past few weeks, NFL social media has been dominated by a flurry of new leaked photos of the head coach of the New England Patriots and the former NFL insider for The Athletic.
As leaked photos continue to emerge, many believe the story has run its course and would rather focus on other topics in and around the sport.
NFL World Is Done With the Mike Vrabel-Dianna Russini Scandal
The scandal of the alleged affair between Vrabel and Russini was a bombshell when the details around it were first released and stunned many on social media.
The shock value led to tons of discussion about both individuals and their jobs, but as time has gone on, the story has continued to be pushed, and many players, analysts, and fans are done with it.
“For the love of it, Vrabel and Russini had an affair,” Mark Willard said on X. “Let’s move on.”

Vrabel and Russini have both made statements about the scandal, with Russini denying things that were projected and the Patriots head coach admitting to having tough conversations with his family and the players.
However, those statements have not slowed down the constant influx of leaks and posts about the scandal. Russini’s resignation from ‘The Athletic’, as well as Vrabel missing Day three of the NFL Draft for counseling, have only further fueled social media, prompting Sleeper NFL to call the situation “exhausting.”

With Mother’s Day over the weekend, the social media frenzy only continued in full force regarding the story. But some have raised points about how the continued discussion of the story affects the families of both parties.

“We get it – they had an affair. She was a reporter covering him. It’s the Patriots and the NFL,” Michael Avenatti wrote on X. “But are “clicks” the only thing that matters anymore? Or at some point – reminder that we are weeks in presently – do we show some respect for their families and let these people work through their s**t?”
“It’s a slow drip by people who have the evidence. TMZ knew ahead of time it would be a slow drip,” said Nikki Gist, co-host of “Between The Uprights & Hot Takes Hard Lines” in response to Avennati.

The timing makes sense for TMZ, considering how little is going on around the NFL at the moment. The story could also see a rebirth if Adam Schefter’s report that he believes A.J. Brown will be traded to the Patriots after June 1 comes to fruition, given Vrabel’s history with Brown in Tennessee, his coaching the Patriots now, and Russini’s role in pushing the story.
New England would like to return to focusing on football amid the scandal. The Patriots ranked as the No. 12 defense in PFSN’s NFL Defense Impact Metric in 2025 under Vrabel. Their defense, combined with a breakout season from quarterback Drake Maye, helped the team reach the Super Bowl, where they fell to the Seattle Seahawks.
Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey weighed in on the scandal as well, saying, “I really don’t understand why this app is so interested with a Vrabel cheating. It’s a lot going on for sure, but who cares.”
As the NFL approaches its official schedule release on Thursday, May 14, fans await an announcement from Aaron Rodgers on whether he will return for a 22nd NFL season. Unfortunately, for now, it is a slower news period with no games on, and free agency and the NFL Draft have wrapped up, so the Russini-Vrabel story will remain in the headlines.
Once those two things happen, perhaps the discussion surrounding the personal drama with Vrabel and Russini will settle down and can be handled privately within each of their respective families. Until then, it’s fair to assume there will still be plenty of discussion about the scandal.
