‘We’re Headed for a Divorce’ — Analyst Speculates Mike Vrabel Is Now ‘Living the Single Life’ Amid Dianna Russini Scandal

Mike Vrabel returning quickly from his leave of absence prompts Jason Whitlock to theorize about a potential impending divorce.

As the Dianna Russini and Mike Vrabel story continues to unfold, new layers are getting added seemingly every day. Both parties are already dealing with some hefty repercussions.

But according to one analyst, the story is far from over. Instead, he believes something grievous could be in the pipeline for the head coach of the New England Patriots.

Mike Vrabel Could Be Headed Towards Disaster After the Dianna Russini Scandal

Since the pictures from Arizona first became public, the story has caught on like wildfire. From errant interview moments to suspicious tweets, tampering allegations, and even a Spotify playlist, the internet has caught on to the story.

As a result, both parties have faced serious repercussions. For Russini, that meant stepping down from her role at The Athletic. On the other hand, Vrabel has admitted to some “difficult conversations” with his family and the Patriots organization.

Moreover, he began seeking counseling on the third day of the 2026 NFL Draft, stepping away from the team during a pivotal time in the offseason. However, Jason Whitlock believes that the therapy session could have been the start of something drastic for Vrabel.

“The Mike Vrabel-Diana Russini story, it won’t go away. It’s the gift or the curse that just keeps giving. Mike Vrabel is already back from his indefinite leave. That, to me, is a signal. He went away for Saturday and Sunday, back to work on Monday. That, to me, signals his wife said, ‘we’re done here. We’re headed for a divorce.'”

The simple explanation for Whitlock was that one weekend was too short a time for the two to figure out the situation. “No way you settle that in just one weekend. When the guy’s back to work on Monday, that means he’s living the single life and his wife has told him she’s done.”

However, the story goes deeper than that. The timeline for Vrabel returning to the Patriots seemed questionable to quite a few people. But Jonathan Jones of CBS confirmed that the therapy trip wasn’t just a one-time thing.

“Attempting to clear up some internet confusion the last 24 hours: It was never the plan for Mike Vrabel to attend one day of therapy and not go back. It is a process. He was gone Saturday. He’s back with the team now. He will be gone and return again in the future.”

As a result, his return to the Patriots was part of the plan that the organization is implementing over the coming weeks. It remains to be seen if the consequences go any further than that.

But for the time being, it looks like this is the pathway the franchise, its head coach, and his family have adopted.

Drake Maye Comes Out To Support Vrabel

Despite the noise surrounding the situation, Drake Maye and the Patriots’ players remain fully supportive of their head coach.

“We’re here for Coach, we love Coach,” Maye said about Vrabel. “What he does for us, what he’s done for us this past year, you can’t speak into words. Thankful he’s our head coach. Know he’s dealing with some off the field and out of the coaching world, but we’re here for him, and I know he’s gonna come back.”

Apart from the star quarterback, two veterans, Hunter Henry and Robert Spillane, were also asked about Vrabel.

“I thought he did a great job. It’s been the same Vrabes, bringing a lot of that energy in the room. Obviously, he addressed it, and that’s kind of all I’ll say about it,” Henry said.

“Coach coaches football. He keeps the main thing the main thing. So I know he’s dealing with personal issues, but when we’re in the building, we speak football,” Spillane said. “I love coach, and I’m going to be there to support him as he would be there to support me through everything. I’m just a player, and I’m trying to do that as best I can.”

Vrabel has addressed the media twice since the scandal broke, and as of now, it seems like he has the full support from the organization regardless of what transpires off the field.
