The Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini scandal continues to pick up steam. What started as viral photos of the couple at a resort in Arizona has now turned into one of the biggest off-field storylines in recent NFL memory, overshadowing even the 2026 NFL Draft.
As more footage and photos continue to surface, the conversation has shifted from curiosity to criticism, and notable media figures aren’t mincing words.
Jim Rome Rips Mike Vrabel, Dianna Russini for Viral Clip
The latest clip to resurface is an interview that Russini did with Vrabel shortly after he was named the head coach of the New England Patriots.
The two discuss Vrabel’s wife, Jen, and her aptitude for tennis and ping pong. Legendary radio host Jim Rome addressed the clip and lit up Vrabel and Russini.
“I mean, guys. What are you thinking there?” Rome said on his show on Sunday. “What are we doing here? How can you go there? How can you be unaware of the possibility [that this will look bad]? Because at this point, the two of them were carrying on. And she brings up his wife?”

Rome’s disgust centered on the fact that they are discussing Vrabel’s wife at all and the tone of the interaction. What may have once felt like a casual exchange now carries a completely different weight, given everything that has come to light.
“One, how can you do that? And two, how can you be so unaware that one day that clip would make both of you look absolutely horrible?” Rome added.
Rome went even further, calling out how the conversation referenced Vrabel’s wife in a way that now feels impossible to ignore.
“I mean, that is all kinds of messed up,” Rome said. “That’s the type of thing that has commenters saying, ‘See you both in hell.’ You’re talking about the man’s wife in an interview, like it’s some inside joke between the two of you. Completely jacked up. The two of you are talking about her?”
In the clip, Vrabel seems to take a subtle dig at his wife, as Russini describes Jen as “an athlete” and the Patriots head coach clarifies that she “used to be.”
Mike and Jen first met at Ohio State University in the 1990s when they were both student-athletes. Mike played football, while Jen played volleyball, where she earned two All-Big Ten selections, Academic All-Big Ten honors, and multiple AVCA All-District recognitions.
Rome isn’t the only media personality who is criticizing Vrabel and Russini. Former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker turned media personality Emmanuel Acho broke down the recent bombshells in the scandal and made his feelings clear on Russini.
“Russini just appears to be a crazy person,” Acho said. “She has a child named Mike, strike No. 1. She had a playlist that was created, apparently, off of this four-game losing streak [with the Titans] that she sent to Mike… Married people cheat… She named a child after [the man she had an alleged affair with].”
Former NFL star and ESPN employee Marcellus Wiley argued that Russini and Vrabel’s lies are what got them in this mess.
“We gotta slap ourselves when we lie,” Wiley said. “And we all lie, trust me. If we’re caught slipping, the first thing is, ‘Is this lie gonna work, because I don’t wanna deal with these consequences?’ Once you realize, and hopefully you’ve got a better ‘Spidey Sense’ than Dianna, you realize this ain’t gonna work.
“Sometimes you just know you can’t lie…. In this situation, the lies are the problem. This story could’ve been dead by now. I really think it could’ve been dead because the draft would take over, but instead, you dismissed us, you laughed at us for just being curious.”
Vrabel recently stepped away from the Patriots on Day 3 of the 2026 NFL Draft in order to attend counseling sessions with his family. However, a recent photograph showed Vrabel in a Salt Lake City airport buying a gift for his wife on that same day, which led to more questions than answers for NBC’s Mike Florio.
“I know the Patriots would love nothing more than to turn the page,” Florio said. “It’s their own fault for how they mishandled this from the get-go. It continues to be a story because it has been one PR debacle after another. He’s back now, and there are still questions. I don’t think this idea of skipping the third day of the draft to attend counseling ever flew with anyone.
“And when you throw in the fact that the New York Post now has photos of Mike Vrabel in Salt Lake City Airport on Saturday, when was the counseling?” Florio said. “Where was the counseling? What was really going on here? And I don’t want to go too far down speculation lane, but there are constantly new developments, and it seems like every new development raises more questions and makes a strange situation seem even stranger.”
As Florio notes, new information continues to surface each day, which is why this story doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. The 2026 NFL regular season is months away, so it will be awhile until there’s actual football to distract from the noise as well.
