The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been without wide receiver Mike Evans since Week 7, when he suffered a broken collarbone in a 24-9 loss to the Detroit Lions. As Tampa Bay prepares to face the Los Angeles Rams in Week 12, the timeline for Evans’ return remains unclear, and his absence continues to influence the NFC South playoff race.
What’s the return timeline for Mike Evans?
Evans was placed on injured reserve shortly after the injury and has not yet returned to practice. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported in October that Evans was expected to miss “eight weeks or fewer,” placing his potential return between Weeks 12 and 16.
Fox Sports’ Greg Auman, reporting around the same time, said, “The hope for Evans’ broken clavicle is a recovery timetable of 6-8 weeks, likely on the longer side of that. That would get him back at the end of the regular season and for the playoffs.”
The 32-year-old wide receiver has just 140 receiving yards and one touchdown this season after missing time earlier with a hamstring injury. He has appeared in only four games and is likely to fall short of 1,000 receiving yards for the first time in his 12-year career.
Evans posted 1,000 yards in each of his first 11 seasons, setting a new NFL record for the longest such streak to start a career and tying Hall of Famer Jerry Rice for the most consecutive 1,000-yard seasons overall.

In Evans’ absence, the Buccaneers have leaned on rookie Emeka Egbuka and tight end Cade Otton to fill the void. Quarterback Baker Mayfield has spread the ball around more, but the offense has lacked Evans’ size, physicality, and vertical threat.
Tampa Bay is 6–4 and holds a half-game lead over the Carolina Panthers in the NFC South. The offense has been inconsistent, ranking 17th in the league with a PFSN Offense Impact Score of 73.4.
After facing the Rams in Week 12, the Buccaneers will take on the New Orleans Saints in Week 13 and the Atlanta Falcons in Week 14. If Evans returns by Week 15, he could be available for a critical closing stretch that includes two matchups against the Panthers.
Head coach Todd Bowles has not provided a definitive update on Evans’ status this week. While the team has not ruled out a return within the original eight-week window, the lack of practice activity suggests the Buccaneers will continue to take a cautious approach.
Evans remains a cornerstone of the Buccaneers’ offense, and the team is likely to prioritize long-term health over short-term urgency as it weighs his availability for the final stretch and a potential playoff run.
Ahead of the game against the Rams, NFL insider Mike Garafolo reported that Evans is expected to return “in the coming weeks.”
