NFL Insider Drops Update on Micah Parsons’ Contract Situation as Cowboys Star Makes Training Camp Decision

Micah Parsons' contract saga rumbles on as the Dallas Cowboys enter preseason training camp having not yet tied down their star edge rusher.

The wait continues for Dallas Cowboys star Micah Parsons as the rest of the league’s elite pass rushers receive lucrative new contracts one by one. Parsons is heading into the final year of his rookie contract, but his commitment to staying in Dallas has never wavered.

In a recent episode of “Good Morning Football,” NFL insider Ian Rapoport broke down the situation as the Cowboys embark on their pre-season training schedule.

Micah Parsons Committed to the Cowboys, But No Extension in Sight

Parsons has never threatened to hold out this offseason, despite hostilities between the player and his team emerging earlier in the year. Parsons publicly hit out at the team’s owner, Jerry Jones, after the latter seemed to disrespect the player’s agent, David Mulugheta.

The two-time first-team All-Pro has touched down in California with the rest of the Dallas roster, but Rapoport has downplayed the significance of his being there.

“I’m sure Micah Parsons will get paid, but it doesn’t seem like anything is imminent there. The Dallas Cowboys and Micah Parsons have had conversations surrounding a long-term contract extension that will make him, no doubt, the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL,” the insider said.

“Cowboys report (for training camp) today, expect Micah Parsons to be there. No surprise there, everyone has known for months. Micah Parsons will be there, will be on time, will be with his team,” Rapoport continued.

Parsons has expressed frustration and confusion over the team’s reluctance to complete a deal earlier, but has maintained his faith that everything will work out.

Parsons Set to Receive Record-Breaking Contract When Deal Eventually Gets Done

Rapoport then revealed that Parsons’ eventual payday will be worth the wait. The insider pointed to two huge deals that have already happened this offseason, before stating that the Cowboys star’s deal will likely eclipse both.

“We’ve seen several big-name edge players get paid this offseason, from Myles Garrett, now T.J. Watt, the latest – $41 million per year. Micah Parsons is set to make, likely more than them, likely the last… because Micah likely comes in at the top of the market, he is fine waiting, and he has said that,” Rapoport explained. “He knows his money is coming; he has already earned it.”

Though the Cowboys have kept Parsons waiting, they are an organization known for paying their top players. Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and Trevon Diggs have all received lucrative deals in recent years, with Parsons set to be the next in line.
