Ever since he came into the league as a first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, it felt like Micah Parsons would spend his entire career with the Dallas Cowboys. However, just four years later, a prolonged contract negotiation led to his trade.
Finding a new home with the Green Bay Packers, he was instantly impactful for them. But fans of his former team continue to believe that his career could have been spectacular with them. His brother, Terrence Parsons, though, vehemently disagrees.
Micah Parsons Is Better Off Without the Cowboys
A Pro Bowler in each season of his career, Parsons was up for a blockbuster extension after his rookie contract ran out. However, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones continued to kick the can down the road.
As a result, no extension came to pass from the negotiations. Eventually, Parsons, who was already dealing with an injury, demanded a trade from the organization. In the days before the season kicked off, his wish came true, and he became a member of the Packers.
What followed was statistically one of the most dominant years of Parsons’ career. Compiling 12.5 sacks through 14 games, he’d transformed the Packers as a whole, earning an All-Pro and Pro Bowl nod, despite tearing his ACL in Week 15.

He finished at number 17 on PFN’s EDGE Impact Metric, which was the lowest mark of his career. But considering that he had to get accustomed to a new system in a hurry, deal with an injury to start the season, and tear his ACL, it was still a remarkably effective year for the Penn State product.
His impact was felt even more after the injury. Including the game against the Denver Broncos, where he got hurt, the Packers went 0-5 to end the season, including a loss to the Chicago Bears in the Wild Card Round.

“Best thing Micah ever did to get the [expletive] outta there,” Parsons’ brother Terrence claimed, after seeing Jon Machota of The Athletic share a picture of the first anniversary of Parsons lying on the sidelines during training camp as he took precautions with his injury.
A lot of Cowboys fans disagreed, believing that Parsons could have been a different caliber of player had he stayed in Dallas. Some even argued that the Cowboys were better off for moving on from the superstar edge rusher, as it had allowed them to acquire a ton of depth on the defensive side of the football.
Terrence disagreed with everyone sporting such an opinion. Right now, Parsons has the early lead in winning the divorce, as the Cowboys fell to dead last on PFN’s Defense Impact Metric after his departure.
But an official verdict might need some time and could depend on how the rest of his career pans out.
