Despite high expectations, Jayden Quaintance and the Kentucky Wildcats have fallen short this season. With a record of 21-13 and a 10-8 SEC showing, the Wildcats are determined to defy their seventh seed. On Friday, they face 10th-seeded Santa Clara in what promises to be an electric showdown.
Yet, Kentucky’s roster bursts with game-changing talent, all eyes zeroing in on Quaintance.
Which Kentucky Players Are Projected for the 2026 NBA Draft?
In PFSN’s latest 2026 NBA mock draft, the Wildcats boast a projected lottery selection in Quaintance (No. 9 overall to the Chicago Bulls). Towering big man Malachai Moreno is creating buzz as a potential second-round steal, aiming to break into the first round.
While fans eagerly await Quaintance’s March Madness debut, a lengthy bout of knee swelling after his comeback from a torn ACL puts his tournament appearance on hold. Kentucky loyalists are holding their breath for his possible return.
Quaintance has not played since January.
“JQ is making progress, but I don’t think he’s going to be able to cross the finish line before this weekend,” Kentucky coach Mark Pope said via UK Wildcats Wire.
Senior guard Otega Oweh, who entered the draft last year before deciding to return to Kentucky, is also considered a top-100 prospect by some. Oweh is the Wildcats’ leading scorer, putting up 18.2 points per game.

Jayden Quaintance
“Jayden Quaintance joins Kentucky as one of the youngest players in college basketball, but he already stands out for his size and athleticism. He brings a mix of strength, agility, and bounce that shows up on both ends.
“Defensively, he protects the rim, switches onto smaller players, and grabs rebounds. On offense, he finishes well around the basket, has a soft touch, and is getting more confident with his midrange shot.”
“Despite his youth, he makes a difference in games with his energy, athleticism, and instincts. Quaintance is adding more to his offensive game as his footwork and ball-handling get better, showing signs he could become a modern, face-up big man. He has shown some passing ability and could develop into a reliable shooter from outside.”
“For him to reach his potential, he will need to be more consistent and make good decisions, especially when playing away from the basket. Quaintance is seen as a top prospect and one of the most interesting big men for the 2026 NBA Draft.”
Malachai Moreno
“Malachai Moreno is a skilled 7-foot, 250-pound center with the size, coordination, and strength to compete at the next level. He is a strong presence in the post, excelling as an efficient rim scorer with good touch and finishing ability, using either hand effectively.”
“Moreno is an active rebounder on both ends, turning offensive boards into baskets and running the floor well. He uses his length and timing to contest and block shots, including perimeter closeouts, and is a reliable help defender.”
“Though Moreno is not the most explosive athlete, his footwork, balance, and mobility let him impact the game beyond raw athleticism. He does not stretch the floor currently, but his defensive versatility, rebounding, and efficient paint scoring make him a promising frontcourt prospect.”
