Amid reports linking him with the Golden State Warriors, Florida head coach Todd Golden has opened up about his plans for next season.

Speculation linking Todd Golden with a move to the Golden State Warriors has been rampant in recent days. Now, the Florida Gators head coach has revealed his plans for next season.

Steve Kerr’s contract with the Warriors is set to expire at the end of the season. Reports claim he is unlikely to return as head coach next season after the Warriors failed to make the NBA Playoffs.

Todd Golden Reveals Plans For Next Season Amid Golden State Warriors Links

Golden has emerged as a possible candidate for the Golden State Warriors’ job in recent days. The 40-year-old, who led Florida to the national championship in 2025, is regarded as one of the most talented coaches in college basketball.

But Golden has made it clear he plans to stay with the Gators for the 2026-27 season.

“That’s an interesting question,” Golden said when asked about his plans for next season.

“I’m definitely planning on coaching the Gators,” he added.

Golden’s statement will come as a big relief for Gators fans, who will hope that the Arizona native stays on as head coach and leads the team’s bid to make a deep run next year after falling at the second hurdle in the NCAA Tournament last season.

However, it will be interesting to see whether that stance would change if the opportunity to coach a big NBA team like the Warriors opens up. Kerr’s future remains uncertain, with Draymond Green hinting that he could retire.

Golden became head coach of the Florida Gators in 2022 and has enjoyed a 103–41 overall record. He has established Florida as a force to be reckoned with during his four-year tenure while helping with the development of stars like Thomas Haugh, Alex Condon, and Rueben Chinyelu.

Haugh and Condon have already announced plans to return to Florida next season, so Golden will have a team capable of competing at the top level once again.

After guiding Florida to the national title in 2025, Golden signed a six-year, $40.5 million contract extension to keep him at the program until the end of the 2030/31 season. According to the Gainesville Sun, buying out his contract would cost the Warriors $2 million if they decide to pursue a move for him.

Before becoming Florida’s head coach, Golden spent three years as San Francisco Dons head coach. A return to the Bay Area may prove enticing if the opportunity arises. But for now, it appears that Golden is staying put with the Florida Gators.
