Caleb Foster officially announced that he is returning to Duke for his senior year. After establishing himself as a key player in the Blue Devils’ starting lineup last season, the 21-year-old will play under head coach Jon Scheyer for one year with the goal of winning a national championship and elevating his NBA Draft stock.
The news of Foster’s return comes just one day after the Blue Devils secured the commitment of Wisconsin star John Blackwell.
Father of Duke’s 5-Star Recruit Deron Rippey Jr. Pumped About Caleb Foster News
Duke has an embarrassment of riches in the backcourt with Foster, Cayden Boozer, Blackwell, and five-star recruit Deron Rippey Jr. among others. Deron’s father, Deron Rippey Sr., shared his excitement about the news of Foster’s return.
“Let’s Goooo #SeniorYearLoading #Let’s Get This Championship, Caleb Foster #brotherhood,” he wrote on X.

When announcing his return to Duke, Foster explained that he was focused on the present and added that he is ready to do whatever it takes to lead the Blue Devils to the national championship.
“I’m just focused on the right now. I feel that right now I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be. Since I was a kid, I watched Duke win national championships, and I’ve always dreamed of being a part of it. I’ve known since day one, it was always Duke. That’s the dream, and the dream hasn’t changed,” Foster said.
“I’ve fought hard through the ups and downs because that’s who I am. I’ve never been afraid of hard things, I’ve proven that. I’ll continue to do whatever it takes for my brothers, pour my all into this program. Because I know there’s no better place to keep working, to growing, to keep pursuing my dreams than right here at Duke.”
Foster played a pivotal role for Duke in his junior year, averaging 8.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.8 assists as the team’s starting point guard. He also showed great tenacity during the NCAA Tournament, returning just three weeks after undergoing surgery on his right foot and helping the Blue Devils make the Elite Eight, where they lost to UConn in heartbreaking fashion.
Given that Duke will have a stacked backcourt next season, it will be interesting to see which two guards start for Scheyer next season and how he will allocate those minutes.
Duke is expected to lose Cameron Boozer and Isaiah Evans to the NBA, while Nikolas Khamenia has transferred to UConn. But with Foster, the other Boozer twin, and Patrick Ngongba II all returning, the Blue Devils will have a loaded roster next season.
