The New York Giants were one of several NFL teams with a head coaching vacancy after the 2025 regular season concluded.
The team has been aggressive in its search and reportedly agreed to a massive deal with John Harbaugh to become its head coach. Harbaugh apparently had one crucial condition when he took the job, and it shows his plans for young quarterback Jaxson Dart.

Part of the stipulation for Harbaugh accepting the job was that he be allowed to bring Todd Monken onto staff. Monken was Harbaugh’s offensive coordinator in Baltimore from 2023 to 2025.

Per NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the expectation is that Monken will “work directly with QB Jaxson Dart,” in New York and will “likely” be the offensive coordinator.
Monken is a coach with over 30 years of experience in both college and the NFL. The longtime assistant has served as offensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cleveland Browns, and Baltimore Ravens in the NFL.
Over Monken’s three seasons in Baltimore, the Ravens’ offense had an 81.1 average PFSN Offense Impact grade. The unit also averaged 6.2 yards per play, 2.5 points per drive, and had a 61.2% red-zone touchdown rate.
The Giants’ offense, meanwhile, had a 63.2 average PFSN Offense Impact grade over that same time period.

The hope in New York is that Monken can get the most out of Dart. The quarterback had flashes of brilliance as a rookie but also dealt with the typical rookie struggles. Dart earned a 76.5 grade from PFSN’s QB Impact ranking, which ranked 18th out of 48 qualified passers.
Monken had plenty of success with Lamar Jackson at quarterback and clearly liked what he saw from Dart as a rookie.
Giants Fans Have Reasons for Optimism
While the last few seasons have been rough, it seems like the time for optimism in New York. With Harbaugh, the team is getting a Super Bowl-winning coach who has won a ton throughout his career.
Harbaugh has an overall record of 180-113 as a head coach and has only had two losing seasons in his career. The Giants, meanwhile, have had losing records in three straight seasons and have not made the playoffs since 2022.
Monken coming along is also a positive, as the coach has done some great work with quarterbacks in the past. There’s no reason to think Monken can’t have success in New York with exciting young players like Dart, Cam Skattebo, and Malik Nabers.
