At LSU, the two were terrorizing opponents as one of the most dominant collegiate squads in recent memory. However, the superstar wide receiver believes there were specific moments that truly helped them get to that level.

One of the most highly touted quarterbacks in the league today, Burrow remains a lethal player under center. His combination of accuracy and making the right reads has been a consistent story throughout his career.

And for much of it, he has had Chase to throw the ball to. The five-time Pro Bowler was with Burrow during his two years with the Tigers, before being selected by the Bengals in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Since then, the two have become among the most dangerous duos in league history. Now, on the first episode of his new podcast, “Chasing No. 1,” Chase has revealed a story from their LSU days that truly showcases the edge Burrow has had.

“I think the best story I got with him was the Mike Divinity story,” Chase said. “That was the first time he screamed, he yelled, he stood up for himself because at that time, everybody at LSU was messing with him. Just trying to pick with him to see how he gonna react.”

Unfortunately, they found out the hard way. Chase added, “I tell you, Joe snapped that day. Ever since that day, everybody was like, ‘Yo, we not messing with Joe ever again.’”

Burrow, who was making an appearance on the podcast’s debut episode, revealed his side of the story.

With LSU having a culture of defense before his arrival from Ohio State, he was constantly on the end of shots from the defense. While he tried to absorb some of the jabs, eventually he grew frustrated with the situation.

“I had to prove myself, prove my toughness, prove everything about me, and people just kept trying me” Burrow said. “The culture at LSU at the time was defense was great, offense wasn’t. First couple of practices, the defense was talking crazy to the offense and nobody’s saying anything.”

As a result, he took matters into his own hands.

“So I was like, ‘Do I say something here? Do I not say anything here?'” Burrow added. “Then I was just like, (expletive) it. I’m going to start cussing people out, doing whatever I got to do to try to set the tone for the season, for my career here.”

It turned out to be for the best for LSU. Burrow would go on to win the Heisman Trophy while leading the program to the national championship in historic fashion.
