Ja’Marr Chase Injury Update: What’s the Latest on the Bengals Superstar and Will He Play in Week 1?

Zac Taylor eased Bengals fans’ concerns, saying Ja’Marr Chase will be limited in practice but should be fine for Week 1.

The Cincinnati Bengals’ star wide receiver, Ja’Marr Chase, hyperextended his knee during practice last week, immediately giving Bengals fans plenty of reasons to worry about the severity of the injury.

However, the latest update surrounding Chase’s condition has offered some much-needed reassurance to both the team and its fan base.

Will Ja’Marr Chase Be Ready for the Bengals’ Week 1 Opener?

Chase suffered the injury after awkwardly going down while attempting to make a deep catch from quarterback Joe Burrow during practice.

Despite the play’s concerning nature, Chase made it to the sideline under his own power without assistance from medical staff. The Bengals ultimately decided to keep their star receiver on the sideline strictly as a precaution.

Head coach Zac Taylor revealed on Tuesday that Chase would participate on a limited basis throughout the week. However, Taylor did not express any concern about the receiver’s availability for Cincinnati’s Week 1 matchup.

“Ja’Marr Chase will be limited through this week but Bengals coach Zac Taylor ‘feels good about him,'” Bengals reporter Ben Baby shared on X.

After the injury, Chase did not appear to be dealing with significant pain while speaking with his teammates on the sideline. The star receiver also downplayed the severity of the injury last week, stating it was a minor incident.

“It’s just a freak accident,” Chase said. “Stuff like this happens all the time. It’s football. Some things are out of my control, and that was one situation that I couldn’t control, but I can control now.”

Cincinnati is now fully focused on preparing for its season-opening battle against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sept. 13. Based on Taylor’s latest comments, Chase appears to be on track to be ready for Week 1. However, the Bengals will likely continue to monitor his knee closely throughout the coming days.

Being without Chase for any significant amount of time would create a major challenge for the Bengals’ offense, considering how heavily Cincinnati relies on the chemistry between Chase and Burrow. The duo has developed into one of the league’s most dangerous quarterback-receiver combinations.

Through his first five seasons in Cincinnati, Chase has already established himself as one of the most productive wide receivers in both Bengals franchise history and the NFL. Last season, Chase recorded 125 receptions for 1,412 yards and eight touchdowns, numbers that helped him secure the No. 5 spot in PFN’s NFL Wide Receiver Impact Ranking.

Behind Chase, the Bengals have several other options on their wide receiver depth chart, including Tee Higgins, Colbie Young, Andrei Iosivas, Mitch Tinsley, and Charlie Jones. However, Cincinnati will certainly hope that Chase can return to full strength before the Bengals open their regular-season campaign.
