Can Woody Johnson’s Patience Outlast the Jets’ Struggles?
According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, owner Woody Johnson made it clear that the quarterback decision is “completely up to the coach.”
While Aaron Glenn has yet to make an official announcement, sources told ESPN that he is “moving toward naming Tyrod Taylor his starter.” That decision, if confirmed, would mark a significant shift for a franchise still searching for stability under center.

Johnson’s faith in Glenn, however, appears to remain intact, even as his confidence in Fields seems to have wavered. At the NFL’s fall meeting, Johnson told reporters, “He’s turning around parts of it,” Johnson said of Glenn.

“It’s hard when you have a quarterback with a rating that he’s got. He has the ability, but something is just not jibing. If you look at any head coach with a quarterback like that, you’re going to see similar results.”

His words, first reported by NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo and later echoed by Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic, reflect the organization’s growing unease with Fields’ inconsistency.
According to PFSN’s QB͏ Impact metric,͏ Fields holds a QB Impact Score of 63.3, ranking 32nd in the league this ͏season and͏ earning a grade of “D.”
Through six games, he has completed 86 of 135 passes, a 63.7 percent completion rate that aligns with the league average but hasn’t translated into wins. These numbers encapsulate the dilemma facing Glenn: solid individual flashes overshadowed by a stagnant offense and mounting losses.
Johnson acknowledged that Glenn has “turned around parts of it,” but reiterated that the offense remains a glaring weakness. “You can’t run the ball if you can’t pass the ball,” he said, underscoring the need for more consistent quarterback play. Despite the Jets’ struggles, the owner maintained, “I do believe in Aaron.”
Speaking to ESPN and other outlets, Johnson also directed a message toward fans: “If they’re a true Jets fan, that’s not a question you ask. They’ve been at it for a long time. They know exactly what’s going on.”

His comments reveal both frustration and admiration, an acknowledgment of how deeply invested the fan base remains despite years of disappointment.
Johnson reaffirmed that the quarterback call rests solely with Glenn. “The QB decision is completely up to the coach,” he repeated, per Cimini. With the team still searching for its first win, Glenn’s next move, whether sticking with Fields or turning to Taylor, could define the trajectory of his debut season.
“You can’t win with hope, but it helps,” Johnson added, encapsulating the mood around the franchise. For a team that has run out of excuses, hope may be the only thing left to hold onto.
