Lamar Jackson’s future with the Baltimore Ravens remains uncertain, but new head coach Jesse Minter seems eager to build a team around the franchise’s current QB1.
On the eve of the NFL combine, the head coach reflected on the importance of the quarterback being present at the Ravens’ voluntary OTAs this offseason.
Jesse Minter Sends Clear Message to Lamar Jackson About OTAs
Minter praised Jackson’s ability to continue performing well but made clear his desire to see the player more involved with the new coaching staff.
“Lamar’s had unbelievable success doing it both ways, so there’s certainly a balance there. But I think it’s our job to create an environment and a learning opportunity where they feel like it’s really important to them to wanna be there,” Minter said (via Pro Football Talk).
“The feeling of ‘what we’re doing now will pay off in September and October and November’. … It just needs to be an environment that they really feel the importance of it.”
Mike Florio asked Jesse Minter what he can do to entice Lamar Jackson to participate in voluntary Ravens OTAs this offseason:

Minter also emphasized that the identity of the team under his command will be guided by the players’ connection, prioritizing a physical, collective style of play.
Voluntary OTAs in Baltimore will begin April 6, marking the first step in integrating new offensive coordinator Declan Doyle with the rest of the roster.
Jackson’s Future in Baltimore Remains Uncertain
Jackson’s current contract (via Spotrac) is projected to have a $74.5 million impact on the salary cap for the 2026 season, one of the highest figures in the league. This week, general manager Eric DeCosta expressed optimism about extending the contract to reduce that immediate impact and ensure the quarterback’s long-term retention.
In addition, the Ravens are aiming to close the deal before the start of the league’s new fiscal year March 11, seeking flexibility to re-sign other players, such as center Tyler Linderbaum. On the other hand, Jackson, who ranks No. 12 in PFSN’s QB Impact Metric with a C+ grade, continues to negotiate directly with team management to prevent information leaks to the media.
Jackson is coming off a 2025 season marked by injuries (hamstring, knee, ankle and back contusion). The medical and technical staff’s priority is to ensure the quarterback returns to full physical condition before the start of the 2026 season.
