The Washington Commanders’ season has been defined by the harsh reality checks the league has to offer. In January, quarterback Jayden Daniels led Washington past every expectation on the way to the NFC Championship Game. The team hoped to surround him with proven veteran talents to amplify his skill set and help him overcome the hump.
Entering Week 14, just about everything has gone wrong in Landover. Washington is 3-9, with playoff elimination all but guaranteed and last season’s optimism lost in the autumn wind. More pressing is Daniels’ health. He has suffered three injuries this season: a knee strain, a pulled hamstring, and, most recently, a dislocated left elbow.
What Is Jayden Daniels’ Week 14 Status?
Daniels’ health has both short- and long-term implications for the Commanders.
The second-year star is a noticeable upgrade over Marcus Mariota (who has played relatively well in his absence) and would make Washington more of a nuisance down the stretch. Still, Daniels had durability concerns entering the league, suffered some minor injuries as a rookie, and now has three significant marks on his 2025 campaign.
Playing Daniels down the stretch isn’t the most intelligent decision for the sake of the franchise, and putting him in harm’s way only increases the chances of hurting the Commanders’ 2026 chances.
Much like Cincinnati Bengals star Joe Burrow, though, it’s tough to keep a quality quarterback off the field if they have anything to say about it. Whether he gets a chance to play against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 14 is to be determined.
Head coach Dan Quinn provided an injury update on Monday.
“Not yet. He’s still going through that process of the functional testing, and so, I’ll have a better sense as we go through the week, probably in terms of like the game, it’ll be all the way until Friday,” Quinn said, via the team’s website.
He added, “Quite honestly, because the practice portions that’ll be ongoing in terms of like the evaluation and the movements and the contact. So, he has not been for all the way through all the testing yet.”
By PFSN’s Quarterback Impact metric, Daniels took a step back in 2025, falling from fifth to 21st in his second season. Mariota, meanwhile, currently ranks 16th.
In Week 14, an aggressive Vikings defense threatens to pressure whoever Washington puts under center. Ranking sixth in PFSN’s Defense Impact metric and fifth in sack percentage, Brian Flores’ unit poses a challenge to a beleaguered passing attack.
Expect Daniels to make a push to play, even if an abundance of caution ultimately wins out.
