Following a brutal 28-7 loss on Monday Night Football on the road against the Kansas City Chiefs, Washington Commanders fans everywhere are likely asking this very question: Will Jayden Daniels play this week?
Well, we finally have some insight into whether the second-year quarterback out of LSU will suit up for Week 9 against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday Night Football.
Jayden Daniels’ Week 9 Status Trending Well
According to ESPN’s John Keim, Commanders head coach Dan Quinn said that Daniels, who suffered a hamstring injury earlier this season against the Dallas Cowboys, “had a good rehab session” and that he expects the former No. 2 overall pick to practice tomorrow.
This is certainly great news for Commanders fans, as that loss to the Chiefs was brutal. Sure, the game was tied 7-7 until the end of the second quarter, but the Chiefs beat them in the third and fourth quarters combined, outscoring them 21-0.
In relief of Daniels, Marcus Mariota completed 21 of 30 passes for 213 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. The running game couldn’t move much at all, totaling just 60 yards. In fact, Mariota led the team with 28 rushing yards. Just behind him was seventh-round rookie Jacory Croskey-Merritt.

Daniels has played in five games this season. He also missed two games earlier this season due to a knee injury. He returned for three games before suffering the hamstring injury against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 7. Mariota filled in for him then, too.
Over those five games, Daniels has completed 89 of 146 passes (61%) for 1,031 yards, eight touchdowns, and one interception. He’s also added 211 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown.
His PFSN QB Impact rating is relatively middle of the pack, coming in with a C grade and 74.3 score, behind Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray and just ahead of Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
The Commanders’ offense as a whole ranks 11th in PFSN’s Offense Impact (OFFi) with an 80.3 score and a B- grade. They trail their next opponent, the Seahawks, but are ahead of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
If Daniels does suit up, he’ll take on a Seahawks team that’s fresh off a bye week and has a 5-2 record.
The Seahawks average 27.6 points (tied-fifth), 106.1 rushing yards (21st), and 244.4 passing yards (eighth) per game. Defensively, they allow 19.4 points (seventh-fewest), 75.7 rushing yards (fewest), and 230.1 passing yards (10th-most) per game.
It’ll certainly help Daniels if he can get back out on the field and have both of his top wide receivers, Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel, out on the field. Can the Commanders turn things around with Daniels back in the lineup, or is the team just too stale right now?
We’ll see how Daniels progresses this week.
