Philadelphia Eagles star center Jason Kelce retired in March 2024 after 13 seasons of work. Kelce made six postseason appearances and two Super Bowl trips over his final seven seasons, but played his entire career with the Philadelphia Eagles.
He had previously contemplated retirement at various points but ultimately decided to retire following the 2024 Wild Card loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Does Jason Kelce Want To Come Out of Retirement?
He retired as the fifth center in NFL history with at least six All-Pro selections. News broke prior to Week 7 of the NFL season that Brandon Graham could potentially consider coming out of retirement. This naturally led fans to wonder about Kelce’s status. He spoke on his situation and Graham’s status on his podcast, “New Heights”.

“I’m just happy that Brandon’s doing what he wants to do. He wants to continue playing, and that opportunity is there, and to be honest, I think the Eagles can use him in multiple ways. I think it feels right sometimes when you win a Super Bowl… it’s like, ‘Man, just go out on top,’ but at the end of the day, if you still want to play, you’ve got to go play,” he said.
Kelce continued, “You don’t want to look back in 10 years and be like, ‘Man, I really wish I would’ve done another season.’ I’m happy for Brandon because I think this is the decision that he wanted to make, and ultimately I think it will be good for the Philadelphia Eagles.”
Jason retired at 36. He was originally drafted in the sixth round in 2011. In 13 seasons, he was selected to seven Pro Bowls and named first-team All-Pro for the sixth time in 2023.
His brother, Travis Kelce, then asked, “Jason, you’re considering not coming back out of retirement?”
Travis is a legendary tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs and has received for 79 touchdowns on his career so far. He is currently ranked as the No. 5 overall TE on PFSN’s NFL TE Impact metric.
“There’s not even considering,” Kelce swiftly replied. “There’s no considering I am not coming out. It’s a firm decision. Listen, if I wanted to and felt like I could, I would come back in a heartbeat.”
At the time of Jason’s retirement and since the 1970 merger, he was the only center who had won a Super Bowl and earned first-team All-Pro honors six times.
However, reports that Jason could unretire are ultimately fruitless despite fans wishing to see him step back on the field. The former Philadelphia star said his body isn’t near ready to see NFL play again, and because of that, the Eagles know he wouldn’t be able to handle it.
“I knew my body couldn’t do this. I would go out there, and my body would crumble. I knew my body was done when it was done, and more so, the team doesn’t need me. My body would break in half trying to do that dumb [expletive] anymore. I’m done. No chance, and they don’t want me back,” Kelce concluded.
However, Jason will still continue his football career by supporting his brother and discussing all things ball whenever he gets the chance.
