Ja’Marr Chase Candidly Admits He’s Never Seen Joe Burrow So Down, But He Wants to ‘Uplift’ the Bengals QB

The Bengals were eliminated from playoff contention Sunday after a lopsided loss, and Ja'Marr Chase spoke candidly about Joe Burrow.

The Cincinnati Bengals suffered a brutal 24-0 home loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 15. The defeat dropped the Bengals to 4-10 on the season and officially eliminated them from playoff contention.

Star quarterback Joe Burrow did not play his best game against the Ravens. He threw two interceptions, and the Bengals failed to score a single point. After the game, star wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase offered candid remarks about Burrow.

Ja’Marr Chase Gets Candid About Joe Burrow After Disappointing Season

Against the Ravens, Burrow completed 25 of 39 pass attempts for 225 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions. The Bengals were held scoreless and managed just 298 total yards.

After the game, Chase was asked what he’s going to do to “lift up” Burrow after he appeared dejected following the loss.

“If I’m being honest, I’ve never been in a situation with him where I’ve had to uplift him, but going forward, I might need to because he does it for me,” Chase answered. “You never know what he might be going through. I might need to start doing that.”

Chase offered a candid response, reflecting the years he and Burrow have spent playing together. The two were teammates at LSU for two seasons and played pivotal roles in the Tigers’ 2019 national championship run. Chase joined the Bengals a year after Burrow’s arrival, and the pair has since developed strong on‑field chemistry.

As a result, Chase is accustomed to seeing Burrow post big numbers and win marquee games. This season has been much different, and struggles on the field can be especially difficult for franchise quarterbacks.

For his part, Chase caught 10 passes for 132 yards in Week 15. PFSN’s WR Impact ranking gives Chase an 84.3 grade for his 2025 performance so far.

Bengals Set to Miss Playoffs for Third Consecutive Season

There has not been much to smile about in Cincinnati this season.

The Bengals won their season opener, but Burrow suffered a serious injury in Week 2 and did not return until Week 13. By the time he returned, the Bengals were in a 3-8 hole.

Burrow led the Bengals to a win against the Ravens in his return, but the team has lost the two games since. Cincinnati will now miss the postseason for a third straight season.

The last time the Bengals reached the playoffs, in 2022, they advanced to the AFC Championship Game. The year before that, they lost to the Los Angeles Rams in the Super Bowl. Since then, the franchise has endured repeated disappointments, raising questions about potential changes in Cincinnati this offseason.
