The Philadelphia Eagles’ winning streak has officially come to an end, as the defending Super Bowl champions suffered their second defeat in just five days. What once seemed like a dominant start to the season has quickly unraveled, and at the center of the criticism is quarterback Jalen Hurts.
While early victories helped mask some of Hurts’ inconsistencies, his recent performances have left fans frustrated and outspoken. Following a blowout loss to rookie Jaxson Dart and the New York Giants, many are labeling Hurts the “most overrated QB” in the league.
Fans Pounce Over Jalen Hurts’ Underwhelming Performance
Hurts had a limited passing role in the Eagles’ first few games, with the team leaning heavily on its running game and defense. But when he was finally given a higher passing volume on Sunday, the results were disappointing; he was sacked six times, completed just 60.5% of his throws, and the Eagles suffered their first loss of the season.
On Thursday, Hurts was once again given the green light to air it out, completing 72.7% of his passes. However, a handful of costly, game-changing mistakes overshadowed his accuracy and ultimately contributed to another crushing defeat.
In the third quarter, Hurts missed a golden opportunity by sailing a throw over a wide-open DeVonta Smith that could have gone for an easy 89-yard touchdown. The misfire forced the Eagles to punt, and the Giants quickly capitalized, extending their lead to 27–17.
Early in the fourth, things went from bad to worse. As the Eagles tried to close the gap, Hurts threw his first interception of the season. His pass to Jahan Dotson near the Giants’ 15-yard line was perfectly anticipated by cornerback Cor’Dale Flott, who jumped the route and returned it deep into Eagles territory. The Giants punched it in on the following possession.
To make matters worse, Hurts had missed a wide-open A.J. Brown in the end zone just moments earlier, a play that could have completely changed the momentum. Frustrated fans took to X to vent, blasting Hurts for his costly mistakes and calling out what many see as an alarming drop in his performance.
“Jalen hurts getting his ho a** exposed,” a fan commented.

“Did Jalen change his last name to Hurts because that’s what it does to your eyes to watch him play?,” another fan wrote.
“Jalen Hurts gonna show us his stupid face on the field and then give a moronic sound bite postgame can’t wait,” a third fan wrote.
Hurts and the Eagles’ offense, which ranks 20th in PFSN’s Offensive Impact metric, started strong, putting up 10 points in the opening quarter. The reigning Super Bowl MVP found Dallas Goedert on a short three-yard strike for the team’s first touchdown, then powered in a one-yard run midway through the second quarter.
However, that was the last time Philadelphia found the end zone all night, with Hurts not able to get anything going on the ground, managing just 1.9 yards per carry, a far cry from his usual dual-threat impact.

“Jalen hurts trash lost two games in a row becuz of this trash,” wrote another.
“Oh I’m Jalen hurts!!! I don’t wanna throw the ball downfield so I’m gonna toss it to saquon 2 yards behind the LOS so he can try and break out of 5 tackles and get the first down instead!!,” another fan wrote.
Heading into Week 6, Hurts ranked 19th in PFSN’s QB Impact metric, largely buoyed by his clean record, no interceptions through the first five games, and the team’s early success.
But those numbers masked deeper issues. Up to this point, Hurts has functioned more as an efficient game manager than a difference-maker, and that won’t be enough if the Eagles hope to defend their Super Bowl title.
