The Jacksonville Jaguars have made a move to boost their offense right before the 2025 NFL trade deadline. They acquired wide receiver Jakobi Meyers in a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders on Tuesday, giving them another reliable weapon for Trevor Lawrence to throw to.
What does this trade mean for the Jaguars’ push for the postseason, and did the Raiders get good enough value for Meyers?
Breaking Down the Jakobi Meyers Trade Details
ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported the trade on X.
“Multiple teams including the Steelers and Jaguars had shown interest in Meyers, who is scheduled to become a free agent after his contract expires this season,” Schefter stated in his report.
In the deal, the Raiders will be acquiring fourth- and sixth-round draft picks. The Jaguars have two fourth-round picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport elaborated that the highest of the two picks will be sent to Las Vegas.
Jacksonville Jaguars Analysis
The Jaguars played against Meyers and the Raiders on Sunday night, squeezing away with a victory to improve to 5-3 on the season. He caught four passes for 23 receiving yards in the matchup, not really getting much of a chance to stretch the field vertically.
If the regular season ended today, the Jaguars would make the playoffs as the No. 7 seed in the AFC. At 1.5 games out from first place in the AFC South, they still have some ground to cover to place atop their division. However, a Wild Card appearance is a strong possibility, and their passing attack has been a weakness to this point.
Standout rookie Travis Hunter is on the injured reserve list, and Brian Thomas Jr. has seen his production take a step back from his stellar rookie season in 2024. Outside of them, Jacksonville’s pass-catching corps ran pretty thin. The likes of Parker Washington, Brenton Strange, and Dyami Brown were the next guys up.

Meyers is a quality proven receiver who should fit in well as the WR2 in Jacksonville. He surpassed 1,000 receiving yards last season, and he’s on track to reach over 800 receiving yards at his current pace this year, having missed one game due to injury. He’s been one of the more unsung receivers in the NFL for some lackluster teams in his career.
Will the Jaguars sign Meyers to a contract extension after this season? That remains to be seen. Whether or not they do so, as well as the corresponding figures of that extension, would play a role in how this move turns out for them. In the short term, though, they get a reliable weapon to help them push for the postseason.

Las Vegas Raiders Analysis
Meyers had long been considered a trade candidate after having requested a trade when extension talks fell apart before the season started. Though the Raiders had been adamant about keeping the wide receiver, it appears they found a deal good enough to deal him.

At 2-6, the Raiders aren’t in a position to push for a playoff spot this year. Selling before the NFL trade deadline was certainly the right move for the team’s long-term outlook. Given the fact that Meyers had indeed requested a trade, it was unlikely they would be able to sign him to an extension after the season, anyway.
A haul of a fourth- and sixth-round pick isn’t exactly a game-changer for the direction of the franchise. The Jaguars still have 11 selections in the 2026 NFL Draft, with many of them coming in Day 3. One could argue they’re the winners of the Meyers trade, seeing as though they acquired a solid weapon at a cost that will hardly leave a dent at all.
That said, getting a mid-round pick and a late-round pick in return for a receiver who was probably going to walk anyway is solid value for the Raiders. As the 2025 NFL regular season progresses, Meyers’ absence will allow more targets to be distributed among their other young receivers, such as Tre Turner, Jack Bech, and Dont’e Thornton Jr.
Las Vegas made the right move by trading Meyers before the deadline, despite publicly claiming they didn’t want to. The priority should be a youth movement in the organization, and acquiring draft capital while opening up more opportunities for their younger weapons fits in with that strategy.
