As Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson steps onto the field in primetime tonight, what do we know about his off-field life? Find out the details.
In the NFL, players enjoy the luxury of using their helmets as a barrier. While cameras catch them without the helmet, they are often known for what they do while wearing it. Yet, when the game ends, these players live outside the lines and away from the roaring crowd that a stadium offers.
More on Jake Ferguson’s Relationship With Haley Cavinder
On balance, you’d think that playing for arguably the most recognizable NFL team would be enough of a brush with full-on celebrity. Yet, the former Wisconsin tight end managed to supersede that.
In his fourth season, Ferguson hopes to make a bigger impact on the field, as he did off the field last year, when he started dating Haley Cavinder.
In April, the tight end got engaged to Cavinder. That wouldn’t usually be of note, but considering that Cavinder and her twin sister, Hanna, boast over four million TikTok followers, that would generate buzz.

Before she gained social media stardom, the future Mrs. Ferguson earned a reputation as a top-shelf basketball player at Miami and Fresno State. Cavinder scored 2,592 points, good enough for 59th all-time. Along with her twin, Cavinder parlayed the success into an apparel deal with Under Armour.
Meanwhile, Ferguson’s familial fame may not attract the attention of his fiancée, but if you live in Wisconsin, one of his family members’ legacies carries weight in the state. Barry Alvarez has coached the University of Wisconsin football team for 18 years, winning 60.9% of his games and nine bowl games, including back-to-back Rose Bowls in 1998 and 1999. Most importantly, Alvarez is Ferguson’s grandfather.
During Ferguson’s day job, as a member of the Cowboys, you can see the makings of a solid tight end. With receivers CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, and Jalen Tolbert on the outside, the Cowboys could bank on Ferguson winning down the seam with soft hands and surprising agility.
After trading away star pass rusher Micah Parsons and losing defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence to Seattle via free agency, Dallas will need to depend on their offense to score points consistently. Under those circumstances, finding a way for Ferguson to convert third downs and keep the ball moving means a great deal. So far, the Cowboys have performed well, ranking third in the league according to PFSN’s Offense Impact metric.
If Ferguson scores, you could see Cavinder in the luxury box like another celebrity in Kansas City.
