Entering Sunday’s NFL play, the Jacksonville Jaguars were tied with the Indianapolis Colts for first place in the AFC South with an 8-4 record.
The Jaguars have been playing well behind starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence. He needed to show up on Sunday when the Jaguars play the Colts, which was an important game for both teams.
After the Jaguars rolled over the Daniel Jones-less Colts 36-19, Jacksonville has control of the AFC South lead. Currently, Jacksonville sits in third place in the conference behind the New England Patriots and Denver Broncos.
At this point, Jacksonville appears to be on track to be an NFL playoff team for the 2025 season.

The Jaguars are in first place in their division because of a better record than the Colts in common games. They are in there now because they are at 9-4 overall while the Colts fall to 8-5. Jacksonville hosted Indianapolis on Sunday, then welcomes the New York Jets to Jacksonville, Fla., the following week. The Jaguars then travel to Denver, where they will play Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos. After that game, Jacksonville and Indianapolis meet again, this time in Indianapolis on Dec. 28.
The Jaguars will conclude the 2025 NFL regular season against the struggling Tennessee Titans, making it crucial for them to secure a win in that game.
The Jaguars and Texans split their games this season, with Jacksonville winning 17-10 in Week 3 and the Texans winning 36-29 in Week 10. The Texans host the Colts in Week 18.
Jaguars head coach Liam Coen has watched the Jacksonville offense perform decently, but not great, this season. According to the PFSN NFL Offense Impact metric, the Jaguars have an impact score of 72.7 and grade out to a C-.

Jacksonville knew that Sunday’s game against the Colts was important, and their win has put them in a position to have home-field advantage at least in the Wild Card round.
