Could the Houston Texans Be Without Their Top Receiver Again?

Collins has been one of quarterback C.J. Stroud’s most trusted options since joining the Texans, but his latest setback has put the team’s offensive plans in doubt. Collins suffered a concussion during the Texans’ Monday night game against the Seattle Seahawks after hitting his head hard near the sideline in the fourth quarter, according to Joe Rutland of PFSN. The receiver was removed from the game and taken to the medical tent for evaluation before heading to the Texans’ locker room.

Before the injury, Collins had a limited impact in the game, managing four receptions for 27 yards on ten targets. As Rutland noted, the Texans’ offense struggled to establish a rhythm against the Seahawks’ relentless pass rush, which kept Collins and the passing attack in check. His early exit only compounded Houston’s offensive issues, which were already marked by inconsistency and protection breakdowns.

Rutland pointed out that Collins has served as a dependable target for Stroud, though injuries have frequently disrupted his progress. The Texans risk losing reliability if Collins cannot suit up in Week 8.

Adding to the uncertainty, practice reports from later in the week have painted a concerning picture. On Friday, @UnderdogNFL reported that “Nico Collins (concussion), Christian Kirk (hamstring) not seen participating in practice again Friday.”

The absence of both receivers, notably Collins, signals that the Texans could be shorthanded against one of the NFL’s top defenses.

Further confirmation came from ESPN’s DJ Bien-Aime, who posted: “Nico Collins and Christian Kirk aren’t practicing today. Assume they’ll be ruled out against the Niners. They haven’t practiced today at all.” With two consecutive missed practices to end the week, Collins’s chances of clearing the concussion protocol appear slim.

According to PFSN’s WR Impact metric, Collins holds a 76.6 Impact Score for the 2025 season, earning him a C grade. He currently ranks 36th among wide receivers and 277th overall since 2019.

Through six games this season, Collins has logged 46 targets, 26 receptions, 339 receiving yards, and three touchdowns. Despite the team’s uneven performances, these numbers underline his consistency and importance to the Texans’ offense.

If he is indeed sidelined, the situation will force Stroud to lean more heavily on secondary options in the passing game, a difficult task against a 49ers defense known for its pressure and coverage discipline. The outlook remains uncertain as of Friday, but the evidence strongly suggests that Collins is trending toward missing Week 8.
