After fighting through injuries to start the season, Green Bay Packers WR Christian Watson has been a solid presence for quarterback Jordan Love over the last eight weeks. However, after going down in the middle of the Packers’ Week 14 matchup against the Denver Broncos, his status for the NFC North matchup against the Chicago Bears in Week 15 was in question.
While he was cleared to go, the Bears’ defense has silenced him so far in the first half. Here’s a look at Watson’s slow start in Week 15.
What Happened to Green Bay Packers WR Christian Watson?
Despite being banged up heading into the divisional showdown against Chicago, Watson suited up and was able to take the field. However, he hasn’t been able to find much success as Love has targeted him four times, with Watson catching just one in the second quarter for seven yards.
Seeing Watson warm up before the game let fans breathe a sigh of relief. The wide receiver was questionable for most of the week, with ESPN’s Adam Schefter finally sharing that he had been cleared to play a few hours before kickoff.

Since returning against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 8, Watson has been the Packers’ best wide receiver according to PFSN’s WR Impact metric. Despite playing just eight games this season, Watson is the fifth-ranked WR in the NFL with an impact score of 88.9. Targeted 43 times, he’s caught 28 for 481 yards and five touchdowns.
He’s also part of a Packers offense unit that has been impressive this season, led by Love and head coach Matt LaFleur. According to PFSN’s Offense Impact metric, Green Bay is the fifth-ranked offense in the league with an impact score of 83.2.
However, his night completely changes with the injury to Love. One play after his first catch of the night, Bears defensive end Austin Booker blasted Love in the head on a sack, keeping the Packers’ starting QB on the turf for an extended period of time. While he was able to get up and walk off the field, he was quickly put in concussion protocol.
We’ve seen what the Packers do on offense with Malik Willis. They shift entirely to a play style that suits the backup, utilizing read options, designed QB runs, and limiting pass plays. This would be very bad news for the fantasy outlooks for all Packers pass catchers. If Love can’t go next week, Watson and the Packers’ pass catchers will be unstartable.
