Where Do the Two Teams Stand Entering Week 5?

The Vikings have been on a rollercoaster ride through four weeks, with some truly insane performances marred by unexpectedly disappointing nights. Week 1 ended in triumph, and Week 3 was a masterclass on the defensive end. However, the other weeks have been far from excellent, especially after they dropped their Week 4 game to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Dublin.

The Carson Wentz experiment also turned into a mixed bag, with the veteran quarterback throwing for 350 yards and two touchdowns, but also costing two interceptions that ultimately led to a tight 24-21 defeat in Week 4.

The Browns have struggled even more than the Vikings this season, dropping three of their first four games under Joe Flacco. After starting with back-to-back losses, they managed an impressive upset over the Green Bay Packers in Week 3, fueled largely by their staunch defense, which is ranked sixth in PFSN’s Defensive Impact metric.

The Browns had some momentum going into Week against the Lions, and they put together a 13-play drive for 88 yards and the touchdown. However, from that point forward, it was the Lions’ show, as it was 34-3 the rest of the way, with the Browns totaling less than 175 yards for the remainder of the game.

Flacco had an especially brutal night with two turnovers in the first half, including a truly quizzical throw. Gabriel was given some run as the man under center near the end of the game, and has since been named the starter for Week 5, signaling a new chapter for the struggling Browns offense.

Even with Gabriel under center, expectations should be tempered. The Browns rank among the league’s worst offensively, sitting 31st in scoring, and holding the third-worst offense per PFSN’s Offensive Impact metric. For Gabriel to give Cleveland a fighting chance, he’ll need to significantly cut down on turnovers and quickly find his rhythm with his teammates.
