Hall of Famer Sounds Off on ‘Inconsistent’ Marvin Harrison Jr. As Concerns Mount Around Cardinals WR

Marvin Harrison Jr. gets called out by a Hall of Fame wide receiver for his apparent struggles during his second season with the Cardinals.

Marvin Harrison Jr. has been having a massively disappointing 2025 NFL season with the Arizona Cardinals. Some of this may be due to their struggling quarterback situation, but a Hall of Fame wide receiver also blames the player. He explained why and speculated about his future with the franchise.

Marvin Harrison Jr. Called Out by NFL Hall of Famer

Harrison was once considered a generational prospect at the wide receiver position, but it hasn’t quite worked out that way with the Cardinals so far.

Hall of Fame wide receiver Cris Carter recently speculated on what this could mean for his future, while also calling out his issues amid the frustrating start to his career, according to Kyle Odegard.

“When he has been on the field, his play has been inconsistent. He struggled with the drops, struggled with some of his route-running, struggled with separation, and the quarterback position there has been a struggle since he’s been in the league.”

“So those are all things that make you question yourself, make you doubt your ability. The ability is still there. He’s going to have to adjust to a new quarterback next year, but he does have the ability to still dominate,” explained Carter.

Harrison ranks just 40th among all wide receivers in PFSN’s Impact Rankings for this season, and this is actually an improvement from his disappointing rookie campaign, when he finished the year ranked just 62nd. The prized Ohio State Buckeyes prospect, and the son of a Hall of Fame wide receiver for the Indianapolis Colts, has clearly failed to live up to his expectations so far.

Carter doesn’t necessarily believe he is a complete bust at this point after expressing confidence that he can potentially turn things around. He praised his elite talent and suggested that he will have a new quarterback to play with next year. This implies that the Cardinals will move on from Kyler Murray, who has failed to live up to the expectations of his massive contract.

It’s unclear whether a quarterback change is in the plans for Arizona next season, but a significant adjustment would appear necessary to get them back on track. Since making the playoffs in 2021, they have totaled just a 19-45 record entering Week 15 of the 2025 NFL season. This is undoubtedly not Harrison’s fault, but his failure to make the immediate difference he was expected to when they drafted him hasn’t helped their situation either.
