Greg Olsen Reveals How ‘Everything Possible Went Wrong’ on Return Trip With Family From NFL’s Dublin Game

Former NFL TE and current broadcaster Greg Olsen recalled his nightmare travel experience coming home from Week 4 in Dublin.

Greg Olsen joined Joe Davis in the broadcast booth as the Minnesota Vikings faced the Pittsburgh Steelers in Dublin, Ireland. With the Vikings having another game in London this week, Olsen revealed just how horrific his travel home was. It’s something he hopes to never have to deal with again as he powered through with his family by his side.

Greg Olsen Was Stuck on Multiple Trains, buses, and Had to Walk Miles Around Heathrow

When he learned of the opportunity to call a game in Dublin, Olsen thought it would be the perfect game to bring his family to. The timing couldn’t have been any better as they were able to celebrate his wife’s birthday, but things didn’t go according to plan. Recently, Olsen sat down with Erin Andrews to discuss his traveling nightmare.

“Long story short, delayed out of Dublin. Missed connection in London. No flights, had to book new trip to JFK on different airline. Took three hours, three different terminals to find our luggage. Then too late for that flight, rebooked on a later flight for JFK. Sitting on plane in morning in London and haven’t left yet. We took three trains, three buses, and walked four miles around Heathrow,” Olsen said.

“Surreal experience,” he added. “Everything possible went wrong for five hours.” Thankfully for Olsen, he isn’t tasked with heading to London for the Vikings vs. the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, October 5, 2025. Instead, he’ll head to MetLife Stadium as the New York Jets look for their first win off a Dallas Cowboys team that is coming off a rare tie.

After retiring in 2020, Olsen decided to take his talents to the broadcast booth. His relationship with Tom Brady is well-documented as the seven-time Super Bowl Champion immediately overtook Olsen as the lead color commentator. Olsen said there’s no hard feelings between the two, though that’s a position he’s looking to get back to sooner rather than later.

On October 5, Olsen will be without his usual partner in Joe Davis. Instead, he’ll be joined in the booth by Jason Benetti. Benetti is one of the few play-by-play broadcasters who can say they shared the booth with an NFL player. Olsen had a prolific NFL career, which included a C grade in PFSN’s TE Impact metric in 2019. He earned a D+ the next year, going from 18th to 41st in the season rankings.

The game he’s calling on Sunday sees the Dallas Cowboys’ B+ PFSN Offense stepping up against the Jets’ C- grade, according to PFSN’s Offense Impact. Dallas heads to New York 1-2-1 as they take on the 0-4 Jets.
