The New York Giants have made several intriguing moves this offseason, most notably at quarterback. The signings of veteran quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston were followed up with a bold move to trade up in the draft for Jaxson Dart.
But with the quarterback situation taken care of, eyes naturally pivot to the team’s receiver room, and who those quarterbacks will be throwing to in 2025. And, according to NFL insider Connor Hughes, Big Blue may have its eyes on another notable addition in the passing game.
New York Giants Linked With Free Agent Wide Receiver
The Giants struck gold in 2024, landing young stars Malik Nabers, Theo Johnson, and Tyrone Tracy Jr. in the draft, all of whom contributed on offense in Year 1. The team added to that in the 2025 NFL Draft, taking the aforementioned Dart, along with impressive running back Cam Skattebo and tight end Thomas Fidone.
However, with such a young core on offense, the team could arguably benefit from some experienced heads to stabilize things in the short term. Darius Slayton leads an underwhelming cast of veterans on the Giants’ offense, which leaves plenty of room for improvement. According to Hughes, though, help could be on the way in the form of former Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Gabe Davis.

“Gabe Davis is among the most intriguing because of his connections to both (Brian) Daboll and GM Joe Schoen. He was in for a visit, and the two sides remain in contact. Signing Davis would be interesting, though, considering how it could impact Darius Slayton (priority re-signing) and Jalin Hyatt.”
What Would Gabe Davis Bring to New York?
Davis has become known for flashes of elite production and prolonged spells of near silence. His deep-ball prowess makes him a constant worry for opposing defenses, but leaves him unable to rack up the easy numbers that other receivers rely on. Still only 26, Davis has scored 29 receiving touchdowns in five years, with either six or seven touchdowns scored each year that he was in Buffalo.

After two quiet seasons, the Giants may decide to give up on Hyatt. The 2023 rookie was supposed to be the team’s long-term deep threat, but took a big step backward in Year 2. Davis would bring a more reliable option down the sidelines and should match up well with Wilson, who is known for his deep ball.
With most of the passing production set to go through Nabers, the Giants should be prioritizing complementary pieces when bringing in new faces. Davis would be a constant threat over the top, allowing Nabers to reap the rewards underneath. With Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen fighting for their jobs in 2025, another receiving weapon may prove too hard to turn down in free agency.
