How Could a Chris Olave Trade Change the Giants’ Offense?

The New Orleans Saints knew the 2024-25 campaign would bring some challenges, but not many thought a full rebuild was coming this soon. According to PFSN’s Josh Well, the Saints now seem open to moving core pieces, including top wide receiver Chris Olave.

Olave, once a first-round pick and widely recognized as an elite route runner, has found himself at the center of trade rumors for a while. This time, though, there feels like genuine momentum. The Saints are targeting a quarterback in the next draft, and they’re reportedly willing to “sell everything” to speed up the process.

Through the first four games of this season, Olave has caught 26 passes for 185 yards and a touchdown on 43 targets. Those numbers put him above league average in terms of usage, but his efficiency is down, with just 4.3 yards per target compared to the league’s 7.8 average.

Digging into the analytics, PFSN’s WR Impact metric currently has Olave ranked 55th among wideouts. In his career, he’s played 43 games and collected 217 receptions for 2,750 yards and 11 touchdowns. So even with some ups and downs, he’s still shown consistency and might have even more to offer in the right offense.

With Nabers out, the Giants’ reasoning for a trade is easy to see. Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart now lacks a go-to target to build chemistry. Wan’Dale Robinson and Darius Slayton are good options, but the offense ranked 29th in PFSN’s impact metric. That’s a pretty clear sign they need something extra.

“Bringing in Olave would allow Dart to build a connection with him in live action,” Well wrote. He also pointed out the move could “let the offense catch up to the defense” by 2026. That connection would be huge in setting up Dart’s development, especially with so many question marks in the passing game right now.

Financially, Olave’s cap hit is just over $6.1 million this season. That number, paired with his talent, makes him an appealing trade target for any team needing help at receiver, especially one facing a make-or-break year for its young quarterback.

If the Giants make this move, it could completely flip their season on its head. Olave has the resume and the skill to change how teams defend New York, potentially turning what looks like a wasted year into the kind of setup for a 2026 playoff push that would fire up fans and players alike.

Meanwhile, New Orleans could walk away with more draft picks and get a jump on their franchise rebuild, all while staying in the hunt for their next quarterback. This is one of those rare NFL situations where a trade could help both teams, if the Giants are bold enough to make it happen.

The next few weeks will show whether New York hopes for the best or makes the aggressive move that can define a franchise. No matter what, Chris Olave is about to be the name every Giants fan is watching.
