Giants Projected To Land Star CB Mansoor Delane After Trading Back in 2026 NFL Draft

The New York Giants drafting Mansoor Delane could provide a major upgrade to a secondary that lacks a true lockdown presence.

The New York Giants may not be sitting still on draft night, and that could change everything. In a projection that is already turning heads, Big Blue is expected to trade back in the NFL Draft.

Enter Mansoor Delane. The rising star cornerback has quickly become one of the most intriguing defensive prospects, and the Giants landing him after a trade down would feel less like a gamble and more like a calculated steal.

How a Giants Trade-Back Strategy Could Land Cornerback Mansoor Delane

On March 23, cornerback Delane didn’t just show up for his Pro Day. He shocked scouts and forced evaluators to take a second look. From a scout in attendance, LSU’s standout cornerback clocked back-to-back 4.38-second runs in the 40-yard dash, per Field Yates.

And this performance has stoked speculation that Delane will be selected early in the 2026 NFL Draft. According to the latest Mock Draft by PFSN’s Alec Elijah, the Giants would pick up the cornerback in April.

If this projection holds, New York would not just be adding depth; they would be reshaping their secondary with a player built for today’s NFL.

Ranking 23rd on PFSN’s Defense Impact metrics this past season, the Giants’ defense lacks a true lockdown presence on the outside. In today’s NFL, if you don’t have at least one corner who can erase a WR1, you’re constantly adjusting coverages instead of dictating them. That limits how aggressive your pass rush and blitz packages can be.

“For the Giants, this is a major upgrade to a secondary that has lacked a true lockdown presence on the outside,” Elijah notes.

Second, depth is a real issue. Cornerback is one of the most injury-prone positions in football. One injury, and suddenly, you’re starting players offenses actively target.

The NFC is loaded with passing attacks. You’re dealing with teams that can roll out multiple receiving threats every week. If your CB room isn’t strong top to bottom, you get exposed fast.

“From a traits standpoint, Delane checks every box. He’s a smooth, fluid athlete with excellent recovery speed, combined with his confidence in coverage, which makes him a natural fit to anchor the Giants’ secondary moving forward.”

Fourth, roster construction and contracts matter. Even if the Giants have serviceable starters right now, rookie contracts at premium positions like CB give you flexibility. You can invest elsewhere while developing a high-upside player.

So this isn’t about “do they have corners.” It’s about whether they have enough high-end talent to survive modern NFL offenses. Right now, the answer to that could very well be the 22-year-old Delane.

The LSU cornerback has backed up the hype with real production on the field. In his 2023 season at Virginia Tech, Delane recorded 54 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 1 interception, and a fumble recovery.

Zooming out, his career numbers are even more telling. Across his time at Virginia Tech, he totaled 146 tackles, 6 interceptions, and 16 pass deflections before transferring to LSU. That kind of consistent production shows a defender who is not just covering receivers but actively impacting plays, something the Giants’ secondary desperately needs.
