After starting 2-8 this season, the New York Giants fired head coach Brian Daboll early Monday afternoon. Despite winning Coach of the Year in 2022, things only went downhill for Daboll, culminating in an early exit halfway through the 2025 season.
He finished his tenure with New York with just a 20-40-1 record. Giants fans don’t seem ready to stop there, however, as calls to fire general manager Joe Schoen as well are already funneling in.
What Are Fans Saying About Joe Schoen?
Schoen has been the Giants’ general manager since 2022, following several years as the Buffalo Bills’ assistant general manager.
Fans are frustrated by not only the terrible record but also by the perceived waste of talent in their rookie quarterback, Jaxson Dart. Despite the Giants’ offensive struggles, they have a grade of D+ in the PFSN Offense Impact metric, while Dart has an impressive grade of B- in the quarterback impact metric.
This has led to fans calling for Schoen’s head. “Please fire Joe Schoen next,” posted one fan.

Giants Start To Clear House As Another Huge Decision at GM Looms
Schoen’s success with the Bills, specifically with drafting quarterback Josh Allen, made him a highly sought-after general manager candidate at the time. During his five seasons in Buffalo, the Bills made the playoffs four times. Now, though, after back-to-back losing seasons and a third one on the way, Giants fans are ready to move on.
While Schoen has had some success, like trading for star pass rusher Brian Burns or drafting budding stars like wide receiver Malik Nabers or franchise quarterback Jaxson Dart, he’s also had his fair share of misses. First round draft selections Kayvon Thibodeaux and Deonte Banks haven’t panned out.
The Giants are once again looking at a top-10 draft spot for the second season in a row. The roster on paper doesn’t look too bad, but the misses at key positions like cornerback and edge have kept them from reaching their full potential.
At this point, most Giants fans feel like another direction is the best path forward. New York hasn’t won the NFC East since 2011, and 2025 already looks like another season down the drain. Firing Daboll was a step towards a complete overhaul, but whether or not president and CEO John Mara thinks Schoen should be the next to go will be a situation to monitor.
