Giants Announce Major News on Brian Daboll’s NFL Future Amid Calls for Firing

The New York Giants have made a big decision on head coach Brian Daboll after the team's Week 10 loss against the Chicago Bears.

It was deja vu for the New York Giants in Week 10. After Jaxson Dart left the game with a concussion, the Giants blew another late lead on the road as they moved to 2-8 on the season. There’s been plenty of reason for optimism for the Giants, but they can’t close games. With the nail in the coffin on their season, the NFC East franchise made a big decision as they look into the future.

New York Giants Make Big Brian Daboll Decision

The Giants fired Daboll after the disastrous collapse against the Bears. It was the fourth time that the Giants blew a lead in the 2025 season while on the road.

The Giants could have had a much different season if they had closed out games, but they couldn’t. Part of that lies on Daboll’s shoulders, and it cost him his job. The Bears’ defeat wasn’t the one that fans will remember the most, as the collapse against Denver will be the defining moment of Daboll’s downfall in New York.

The interim head coach will be current OC Mike Kafka. This is his shot to prove why he deserves the head coach job permanently. Kafka has had interviews with other teams in the past few seasons, but has never secured a job anywhere. Now, he’s finally a head coach in the NFL and will need to show improvement to convince the ownership to keep him in charge past the conclusion of the 2025 season.

It’s tough for Daboll, as there were plenty of encouraging signs with the team, but poor game management and the lack of closing moments leave the team at the bottom of the standings.

The NFL is an unforgiving league, and teams will be quick to take jobs if there isn’t any production. If you can’t win games, then your job is in trouble. Daboll learned the hard way, and so did Titans HC Brian Callahan. He didn’t even last more than six weeks into his second season, where they had just selected their QB of the future in the offseason.

Some brutal injuries to Dart, Cam Skattebo, and Malik Nabers hampered the potential of the New York offense and hurt Daboll’s chances of winning games. The Giants’ offense ranks 26th in PFSN’s Offense Impact score with a grade of 68.9 through 10 weeks.

The most important news that Giants fans will be waiting for is the latest update on Dart. After leaving with a concussion, Dart could miss more time beyond the little time he missed at the end of Week 10. Dart has shown flashes of brilliance and will be the QB in New York for the foreseeable future. Now, the Giants must find a head coach to pair alongside Dart and maximize his development.

Daboll will find a job somewhere during the offseason. It is unlikely he’ll land another head coaching gig right away, but an offensive coaching role is very much in the cards. If that goes well, Daboll could slowly work his name back into head coaching conversations down the road. But for now, the Giants need a new head coach, and Daboll will be looking for his next destination.
