Get To Know New Chiefs Wide Receiver Hollywood Brown

If there was a position that was a weakness for the Kansas City Chiefs last year, it was wide receiver. The team struggled for much of the season when it came to catching the ball and even lining up in the right spot.

Rashee Rice started to emerge as the season went on, but the team needed to add more firepower at the position. Brett Veach made sure to do just that, as the Chiefs signed Marquise Brown.

For Chiefs fans who don’t know a lot about this wide receiver, here’s a look at what he might bring to the team.

Who Is New Chiefs WR Marquise Brown?

Brown is the cousin of former NFL superstar wide receiver Antonio Brown. He started his collegiate career at College of the Canyons, a junior college. During his lone season at the JUCO level, he finished with 50 catches for 754 yards and 10 touchdowns. After that year, he transferred and headed to Norman, Oklahoma.

At Oklahoma, he got the nickname “Hollywood,” as his big-time playmaking ability made him must-watch TV. He played two seasons with the Sooners, where he finished with 132 catches for 2,413 yards and 17 touchdowns.

The two quarterbacks he played with during his time at Oklahoma were Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray. After two years at Oklahoma, he entered the NFL and was drafted No. 25 in the 2019 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens.

Brown’s Contract Details

Brown signed a one-year deal with $7 million guaranteed with the Chiefs. There are incentives in the contract that push the value of the deal to $11 million.

This was a deal that made sense for both sides involved. The Chiefs couldn’t afford to sign players for long-term contracts, as their 2026 salary cap situation is a mess now, with Patrick Mahomes and Chris Jones taking an absurd amount of the space.

Brown had a tough couple of years in Arizona, but it hasn’t been all his fault. The Cardinals have had a ton of quarterback issues the past couple of seasons, as Kyler Murray has missed significant time with an injury.

When he signed the contract, Brown talked about how Kansas City was the perfect spot to show everybody how good of a player he is. If he is able to go out and have a big-time season in Kansas City, then he will get a long-term contract somewhere in the NFL.

Brown’s Career Stats

Brown has played five seasons in the NFL, with the first three coming in Baltimore. This is where he was able to put up the best numbers in his career. In his rookie season, he had 46 catches for 584 yards and seven touchdowns.

His best season in his career was his final season in Baltimore, when he had 91 catches for 1,008 yards and six TDs.

He has still been a solid player in Arizona, as he had 118 catches, 1,243 yards, and seven touchdowns in two seasons. He has missed eight games in the last two years, but he missed only three games during his time in Baltimore.

Playing with Mahomes could be just what Brown needs to get back to the receiver he was, and if he is able to stay healthy, another 1,000-yard campaign is within reach.
