Brian Daboll is one of the hottest candidates to become the new head coach of the Buffalo Bills. Sean McDermott left the franchise after nine years, and the franchise could look for an offensive mind to take over the job. Giving Josh Allen the best chance of winning the Super Bowl will be a priority.
Should the Buffalo Bills Hire Brian Daboll As Their Next Head Coach?
The Bills just can’t miss in their hire. Allen is in his prime, but the team has made the playoffs in the past seven seasons and still has not won the AFC.
The focus will be on getting the best out of the quarterback, trusting that he can put together a great season to finally get over the hump.
One name that stands out as a possibility is Brian Daboll, who served as Buffalo’s offensive coordinator from 2018 to 2021 and oversaw Allen’s development. Daboll left the New York Giants midway through the 2025 season, and a fresh start could be a good thing for him.
Daboll has former players vouching for him. Tanner Gentry, who played for the Bills between 2020 and 2022, stated that Daboll is “the best offensive mind he’s been around” and that “Allen loves him”:
Best offensive mind I’ve been around, 17 loves him, great motivator and cares about his players. https://t.co/tUC5uLxSq5

Daboll is widely considered the biggest responsible for Allen’s development. McDermott was the head coach, but he comes from a defensive background. Daboll worked closely with the quarterback during his first four years in the league, and Allen’s breakout happened during the 2020 season.
His excellent work with the Bills’ offense landed him the job with the New York Giants. He made immediate offensive improvements, with the Giants winning a playoff game in his first season. However, problems at quarterback hampered his performance, and he was fired with a 20-40-1 record in 2025.
The task will be to do a better job during the postseason. This is not a bad team by any means: our PFSN Offense Impact Metric ranks the Bills’ offense as No. 3 for the 2025 season, with Allen ranked as No. 3 in our PFSN QB Impact Metric. The production and the quality are there.
Ultimately, whoever the coach is, his job won’t truly be judged until the postseason, to take a few steps further than McDermott did. Josh Allen has enough quality to lead the Bills to the promised land.
