A seventh round rookie who carves out enough of a niche to be trusted with 13 touches per game in the playoffs deserves our attention. Ben Johnson has this offense trending in a great direction and he clearly thought that the former Scarlet Knight has something to offer.
Should I Draft Kyle Monangai in Fantasy Football?
The 24-year-old bowling ball known as Monangai brings a bruising, highly productive pedigree to the Chicago Bears, having averaged 5+ yards per carry on over 240 attempts in each of his final two collegiate seasons at Rutgers. He immediately translated that success to the professional level last year, joining a highly exclusive club of efficient rushers.
Among all qualified running backs (minimum of 100 carries) only four players gained five or more yards on at least 42% of their rushing attempts (RB average: 35.4%): Kyren Williams (42.9%), Monangai (42.6%), his veteran backfield mate D’Andre Swift (42.6%), and James Cook (42.1%).

That shared elite efficiency is excellent news because this Bears offense is going to be incredibly potent, giving them the genuine potential to produce two running backs that can hit your fantasy lineups with regularity.

Structurally, this backfield feels a lot like the Los Angeles Rams to me. I’m interested in both players, but I don’t realistically see the balance of powers shifting in a major way without an injury. In Los Angeles, Kyren Williams holds off Blake Corum for touches, though I think you could argue which running back is more valuable at their current draft cost.
In Chicago, the calculus is much clearer. I think Swift (fun fact: the only running back in the league to record at least 220 carries and 45 targets in each of the past three seasons) not only firmly holds the primary gig, but he is also the far better play at price. Monangai remains an elite handcuff and can be a viable flex in times of need, but Swift is my unquestioned priority to draft in this backfield.
