Eagles Star Jalen Hurts’ 4-INT Performance vs. Chargers Draws Harsh Criticism From Ex-NFL QB

The Eagles fell to the Chargers on Monday Night Football in Week 14 after Jalen Hurts had arguably the worst game of his career.

Jalen Hurts did not have his finest moment on Monday Night Football in Week 14. The quarterback struggled mightily against the tough Los Angeles Chargers’ defense, and the Eagles fell to a 22-19 loss.

On Tuesday morning, Hurts is facing plenty of criticism for his performance. Among those weighing in was former quarterback and current analyst Dan Orlovsky, who offered a blunt response to Hurts’ performance.

Dan Orlovsky Was Not Impressed by Jalen Hurts on MNF

Hurts finished the night with 240 passing yards, zero touchdowns, and four interceptions. The quarterback also lost a fumble, bringing his turnover total to five on the night.

This was the first four-interception game of Hurts’ career and the first game in 2025 in which he didn’t have a passing or rushing touchdown.

“Hurts was awful,” Orlovsky declared. “The Eagles are in the shotgun way way way way way way way way way too much.”

That may seem harsh, but it’s hard to disagree. Hurts missed several throws and just wasn’t seeing the field well. The Eagles had a chance to win the game in overtime, regardless, but Hurts threw his fourth and final interception of the night.

Meanwhile, Hurts’ counterpart, Justin Herbert, received praise from Orlovsky. “Herbert is an animal champion warrior legend,” said Orlovsky.

Orlovsky also criticized the Eagles for being in shotgun formation too often. That’s a valid criticism considering the Eagles have so much success when Hurts is under center.

The famous “Tush Push” play and the team’s solid ground game are neutralized from the shotgun.

Eagles Need To Finish Strong To Win NFC East

With the loss on Monday night, the Eagles fell to 8-5 overall and are just 2-3 in their last five games.

However, the team is still ahead of the second-place Dallas Cowboys by two wins. The Eagles and Cowboys split the season series, so the Eagles are still in a good position to win the NFC East again.

Hurts is going to have to play much better than he did in Week 14 if the Eagles want to make noise in the postseason, though.

In 2025, Hurts had 2,754 yards with 19 touchdowns and six interceptions. The quarterback has rushed for 337 yards and eight scores while completing 64.7% of his passes. PFSN’s QB Impact ranking gives Hurts an 80.0 grade so far this season, which ranks 13th out of 42 qualified passers.

Luckily for the Eagles, their remaining schedule is not tough. The team will play the Las Vegas Raiders, Buffalo Bills, and the Washington Commanders twice.
