The Super Bowl halftime show is one of the most prestigious stages for a musician in the world. The announcement is always highly anticipated, and it was announced that Puerto Rican singer Bad Bunny would perform next year at Super Bowl 60 in Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
However, the news has been divisive, and former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker and current media analyst Emmanuel Acho weighed in on the NFL’s decision to select Bad Bunny.
Emmanuel Acho Is Not a Fan of Bad Bunny
Speaking on his daily talk show “Speakeasy,” Acho admits to not knowing Bad Bunny and his music very well.
“Up until three years ago, I thought Bad Bunny was a woman. The question is, is the football audience going to enjoy Bad Bunny in person?” Acho believes that the decision to select Bad Bunny was a financial decision to grow the fanbase overseas, at the detriment of fans in the United States.
Acho asked, “Is the football audience going to enjoy Bad Bunny in person?…. ….What’s that got to do with where the game is going to be played in the Bay?” While he feels this way, his ex-teammate feels something else.

Former Eagles teammate and current co-star on “Speakeasy,” LeSean McCoy, has a simple explanation. “Money!? The NFL is trying to get more viewership.”
McCoy explained Bad Bunny’s popularity with the Spanish-speaking audience. “If you want to get the club popping in the Spanish club, you throw that Bad Bunny on. Your hips are going to be moving! I’m trying to tell you!”
Host of the show, ‘Carebear’ Kieran, agreed with McCoy, boldly proclaiming that this would be a record-breaking performance. He said, “This Super Bowl, it would not surprise me if it breaks records for international viewership. Because it’s the biggest stage that an artist can have to perform.”
Some NFL Fans Are Not Happy With The Bad Bunny Announcement
Since the NFL announced Bad Bunny as the Super Bowl 60 halftime show performer, NFL fans have gone on social media to criticize the choice. Some fans have even declared they will not be watching during the performance.
Los Angeles-born rapper Kendrick Lamar performed this year in Super Bowl 59 between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs. However, non-American singers performing at the Super Bowl is nothing new. Barbadian singer and multi-time Grammy award winner Rihanna performed last year. Colombian singer Shakira performed in 2020 at Super Bowl 54, and Bad Bunny was a special guest during the set.
Puerto Rican singer Bad Bunny is considered one of the greatest Latin rappers of all time. He has three Grammy Awards and 11 Latin Grammy Awards and is one of the most-streamed musicians in the world.
