Eagles Pull Off Surprise Trade for 11-TD WR Amid Uncertainty Around A.J. Brown’s Future

The Philadelphia Eagles have traded for WR Dontayvion Wicks which further complicates A.J. Brown's future with the NFC East team.

The Philadelphia Eagles are making moves and looking to add to their offense after a disappointing 2025 season. They are bringing in Green Bay Packers WR Dontayvion Wicks to add to their receiver room and give new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion another weapon to deploy.

Eagles Acquire Dontayvion Wicks

In a deal out of nowhere, Wicks is heading to Philadelphia for a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The 24-year-old wideout is not heading to Philadelphia empty-handed as he is getting a one-year, $12.5 million extension with the Eagles.

The Eagles are bringing in Wicks, who scored 11 touchdowns with Green Bay, to be another threat on the outside for an offense that didn’t produce to its usual level.

Earlier in free agency, Philadelphia signed Hollywood Brown and Elijah Moore to enter a receiving core with DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown. Brown’s future in Philadelphia remains a question mark, and this deal may begin to add more fuel to the fire of a potential trade away from the Eagles.

Wicks is a dynamic threat, durable and capable of finding the end zone. He has appeared in at least 14 games in each of his three seasons. Last season was the worst statistical season of his career, with 30 catches and 332 receiving yards. He finished as the 72nd-ranked receiver in PFSN’s WR Impact Metric with an impact score of 71.7.

The Packers’ receiving room was extremely crowded in 2025, but it dealt with injury issues. Wicks didn’t make the most of the opportunity, but he also didn’t see the same volume of targets as in his first two seasons.

He is a familiar face to Mannion, who was the QB coach in Green Bay last season. Now, Mannion has plenty of new weapons at his disposal in Philadelphia with Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, and Smith to pair with an old friend in Wicks.

Brown could remain with the Eagles, but this move might mark the end of his time in Philadelphia. They have the offensive talent, and now it needs to show itself.

The Eagles’ offense needs to get back to peak form if they want to be a Super Bowl contender once again. Last season was unacceptable for their standards and if the offense this season is anything like last, an early exit could be on the cards once again for Philadelphia.
