Philadelphia’s offensive coordinator search took a hit this week as one of its top targets came off the board. With former Giants head coach Brian Daboll likely headed to Tennessee, the Eagles are still searching through a prospect pool that has narrowed faster than expected.
Eagles Lose Brian Daboll as OC Options Continue to Shrink
On Tuesday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Titans are hiring Daboll to join Robert Saleh’s staff. The move comes as the Eagles attempt to reset their offense following another uneven season. After firing Kevin Patullo, the team again seeks a coordinator who can maximize quarterback Jalen Hurts and the plethora of Eagles playmakers.
The Eagles were big-name hunting to start their search. Daboll and former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel were attractive names early in this process. But McDaniel opted to take a high-opportunity play-calling gig with the Chargers and was officially named their offensive coordinator on Monday.
Daboll had real appeal for the Eagles. He coached Hurts during his time at Alabama, then built his reputation in Buffalo, where he spent four seasons as offensive coordinator. Daboll is credited with helping develop Josh Allen, who entered the league in 2018 with accuracy concerns before growing into an MVP.
Adam Schefter wrote on X, “ESPN sources: The Titans are now set to hire former Giants head coach Brian Daboll as their offensive coordinator, contingent upon him not getting the Raiders head coaching job.”

The Eagles have interviewed a wide range of candidates, including Zac Robinson, Matt Nagy, Mike Kafka, Jim Bob Cooter, Bobby Slowik, Josh Grizzard, Frank Smith, Jerrod Johnson, and Charlie Weis Jr.
With Daboll off the board, Philadelphia is competing in a market where top offensive minds have options and are not choosing the Eagles. That says something about how the rest of the league may view the Eagles’ offense.
Hurts’ 2025 season landed squarely in the middle tier of NFL starters. Per the PFSN NFL QB Impact (QBi) metric, he finished with a 78.3 score and a C+ grade, ranking 15th at the position. He completed 294 passes for 3,224 yards and threw 25 touchdowns.
The Eagles still have multiple candidates in play, but the loss of Daboll underscores how competitive the market is and that there may be better situations elsewhere. The numbers line up with how Philadelphia’s offense looked for much of the season. The offense ranked 16th on the PFSN NFL Offense Impact metrics.
A unit featuring stars A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Saquon Barkley, and Dallas Goedert should be a play-callers’ dream. Instead, the Eagles will have to settle for less than their top choice.
