Eagles’ Playoff Scenarios Week 16: Philly’s Updated Postseason, NFC East, No. 1 Seed Chances

The Eagles stopped a three-game losing streak in Week 15. What are their chances of winning the division and securing the top seed in the NFC?

The Philadelphia Eagles’ Week 15 win against the Las Vegas Raiders was significant in several ways. The Eagles scored 31 points against the Raiders. This was after scoring only 55 points during their three-game losing streak.

The Dallas Cowboys, who were making a late push to get back into the division race after starting 3-5-1, lost the last two weeks, so the win over Las Vegas stabilized Philadelphia’s chances of winning the NFC East.

What Are the Philadelphia Eagles’ Chances of Winning the NFC East?

The Eagles secured the NFC East division after their win over the Washington Commanders in Week 16. According to PFSN’s NFL Playoff Predictor, the Eagles now have a 0.20% chance of securing the top seed in the NFC, which looks unrealistic as of now. However, they still have a 7.20% chance of winning the Super Bowl.

Philadelphia, with a 10-5 record on the season, is currently the third seed in the NFC. If the playoffs started today, they’d face the San Francisco 49ers. However, the NFC West team is expected to finish as the fifth seed in the conference.

According to our analytics, the Eagles’ chances of finishing as the third seed in the NFC are at 82.70%, and they will match up against the sixth seed in the conference. The most likely matchup for Philadelphia in the playoffs will be against the Los Angeles Rams, and it will be the toughest possible opponent for Philadelphia.

The 49ers still have the highest chance of finishing as the sixth seed in the NFC (40.20%), while the Rams’ chances are at 20.30%.

The Eagles played on the road against the Commanders on Saturday. They had a 62.1% chance of winning according to PFSN Analytics. The Cowboys have a 48.5% chance of winning when they host the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, but that no longer matters, as Dallas can no longer win the NFC East.

If Philadelphia didn’t clinch the NFC East in Week 16, things would have gotten more interesting. The Eagles travel to play the Buffalo Bills in Week 17 and have a 45.6% chance of winning. The Cowboys have a 55.3% chance to win when they visit the Commanders on Christmas Day.

If the NFC East wasn’t wrapped up by Week 18, Philadelphia has a 65.0% chance of winning at home against Washington. Dallas has a 60.2% chance of winning on the road against the New York Giants.

Philadelphia’s three-game losing streak, which began in Week 12, ended any realistic shot at the top NFC seed. The Seattle Seahawks are in the lead with a 56.2% chance of being the top seed.

The Eagles’ offense got going against the Raiders last week. Jalen Hurts had three touchdown passes against the Raiders, and Saquon Barkley scored for the second straight week after going four games without a touchdown.

The Eagles’ defense continued to have a strong season, highlighted by the shutout against the Raiders. The performance moved Philadelphia up to sixth in the PFSN’s Defense Impact (DEFi) rankings.

Coming into Week 16, the Eagles had allowed 14.3 points over the last six games. The stretch started by holding the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions to 16 total points in Weeks 10 and 11. Philadelphia has been in the top eight DeFi weekly rankings four of the last six games, including the second-best performance last week.
