Who Are the Best Wide Receivers To Draft in Dynasty?

The value of the WR position has shot up drastically in dynasty over recent seasons. The influx of talented rookies that are coming into the NFL and are able to produce right away has dramatically changed the way dynasty managers need to be thinking about the position.

With that in mind, who are some key players that you should be targeting as you move down the ADP queue in your dynasty startup drafts?

Despite being a bit underrated in the 2022 NFL Draft coming out of Ohio State, Chris Olave has quickly proven that he belongs in the top 10 of dynasty WR rankings. During his rookie season, in the face of lackluster QB play, Olave was able to command an impressive 119 targets and crossed the threshold of 1,000 receiving yards.

Now, Derek Carr enters the picture for the Saints’ offense, which should translate to big things for Olave entering his second NFL season. Carr has shown no hesitancy in pushing the ball downfield when the opportunity presents itself — even with less-talented receiving options — and that’s going to present Olave with the potential to break out in a major way in 2023.

Olave’s ADP means that you’re going to have to select him above several other more-proven players, but his age (22 years old) and potential should have you excited to hit the draft button.

Brandon Aiyuk has improved dramatically from his rookie season as a route runner and as a fantasy football asset. Despite being consistently viewed behind Deebo Samuel on the depth chart in San Francisco, Aiyuk has quietly emerged as a more consistent option for fantasy lineups.

In 2022, Aiyuk ended the season as the WR15 in half-PPR scoring formats by averaging 11.1 fantasy points per game. Samuel (despite being selected multiple rounds higher in fantasy drafts in August) ended the year as the WR38 in half-PPR formats and averaged just 10.8 fantasy points per contest.

Dynasty managers have not yet caught onto Aiyuk’s emergence this offseason, and his ADP continues to remain surprisingly low. The talented WR should not only continue to be solid for fantasy lineups in 2023, but his contract situation could lead to him playing elsewhere in 2024.

The 49ers picked up Aiyuk’s fifth-year option this offseason, but San Francisco is quickly going to run out of funds with all of the acquisitions they’ve made over the past few seasons. Aiyuk is going to be highly sought after on the open market, which will lead to a high asking price at the negotiation table.

It’s not out of the realm of possibilities that Aiyuk is shipped off at the trade deadline this season or into next offseason to be the clear No. 1 WR in a new offense. Dynasty managers always need to be thinking one or two steps ahead, and Aiyuk’s a worthy investment as a WR2 or WR3 on your roster.

Elijah Moore has quickly become forgotten about in dynasty leagues. After receiving unrealistic hype going into the 2022 season, managers experienced a wave of emotions after Moore’s dismal beginning to the season, which led to his fantasy football stock plummeting.

Moore now finds himself as a member of the Cleveland Browns going into 2023, and there’s plenty of optimism surrounding the talented (and still incredibly young) wideout from a fantasy standpoint due to the offense he’s in.

Deshaun Watson has been receiving rave reviews during the early parts of the Browns’ offseason. Moore could easily find himself as the No. 2 receiving target in this offense right out of the gates. The talent level is obvious when you watch his tape, but in 2022, the opportunity disappeared overnight.

There’s a case to be made that the target opportunity could be back even more than it was in his rookie season, but dynasty managers can get Moore numerous rounds later in their startup drafts this time around.
