‘Drake Maye Just Won MVP’ — NFL World Reacts to Matthew Stafford’s Shocking Performance vs. Falcons on MNF

Rams QB Matthew Stafford got hammered by critics, who watched him play against Atlanta on Monday night and they shut down his MVP hype.

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford came into Monday night’s game against the Atlanta Falcons with a lot of buzz surrounding him. NFL observers even considered him the favorite to win the NFL’s Most Valuable Player award.

However, Stafford’s performance against the Falcons has led many people to shift their focus for MVP to New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye.

What Are People Saying About Rams QB Matthew Stafford?

Against the Falcons, Stafford threw two touchdown passes and three costly interceptions as the Rams lost 27-24. The loss and his performance had a massive impact on his chances of winning the MVP.

Stafford finished the game 22-of-38 passing for 269 yards, but the turnovers hurt his team, and they lost their second straight game to drop to 11-5 on the season.

Gavin McHugh of Friday Beers headed out to X and posted his thoughts after watching Stafford’s poor performance against the Falcons, claiming that Maye has secured the MVP award. “Drake Maye just won MVP,” he wrote on X.

Sports commentator Skip Bayless had a few thoughts, too, about Stafford’s performance. Bayless also went out on X and posted, “Now are you SURE Matt Stafford is MVP?” ESPN NFL and college football analyst Booger McFarland was also questioning Stafford’s MVP capabilities: “That Stafford MVP convo having a rough night”.

Then Rams host Doug McKain also had some words, too, as he’s seen Stafford a lot in his career with the team.

McKain wrote, “I’m old enough to remember when the Rams were the best team in the NFL, were favored to get the 1-seed, and Matthew Stafford was a near lock to win MVP. The Rams’ slide in the last few weeks has been nothing short of stunning. From the Puka drama, collapse vs. Seattle, to this?”

According to the PFSN NFL QB Impact metrics, Stafford has an impact score of 84.3 and grades out to a B. What about Maye? He has an impact score of 87.6 and grades out to a B+.

While Stafford has been getting knocked around by those watching the ESPN game with Joe Buck and Troy Aikman calling the game, he played much better late in the game. Would it be enough to stop people from saying that Maye should be the top person in line for the MVP title?

If Stafford had finished off this comeback against the Falcons, then that chatter might just quiet down. The Rams star is a veteran quarterback who has proven himself time and time again, and now he needs to bounce back in the playoffs.
