Ranking All 53 Man Rosters in the NFL From Youngest to Oldest
According to updated roster-age data from a post to X by Bill Speros, the Miami Dolphins have the youngest roster in the NFL. Quite the expected answer as the team began a full-blown rebuild this offseason.
On the contrary, the Atlanta Falcons are the league’s oldest heading into the 2026 season.
The numbers are based on the ages of players on each team’s initial 53-man roster, with ages calculated for the September 9 opening night of the regular season. The league-wide average roster age is 26 years, 303 days.
The next closest team is the Cleveland Browns, who are also looking towards the future after trading away one of the game’s greats, Myles Garrett, this offseason. The Dolphins roll out an average age of 25 years and 207 days, which is nearly two full years younger than the Falcons’ roster.
The youngest player in the league is Keldric Faulk, the defensive end out of Auburn, who was selected in the first round of this past NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans.
On the opposite end of the rankings, the Falcons are the NFL’s oldest team at 27 years, 220 days. They will roster 41-year-old kicker Nick Folk to begin the season. The veteran heads into his 19th season in the NFL, making him one of the oldest players in the league.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are also among the league’s oldest teams, largely thanks to 42-year-old quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who remains the NFL’s oldest active player. Rodgers heads into his 22nd season in the NFL, and 2026 is all but surely the final season of the future Hall of Fame quarterback’s illustrious career.
Age does not necessarily tell us much about a team’s competitiveness entering the season, but the question that follows these numbers is whether the team’s age profile matches its competitive window.
Following these numbers throughout the 2026 season means younger teams like the Dolphins, Browns, and even the Chiefs will get a chance to see whether they need to add experience to their rosters, or if older teams like the Falcons and Steelers will need to add youth to their aging rosters.
