Maye Brothers Send Voice Message Ahead of Super Bowl Debut

The one-minute, 19-second clip opens with Maye jogging off the Gillette Stadium field after a regular-season win over Cleveland. The camera follows behind the quarterback as he exchanges high fives with staffers and fans, his last name and No. 10 visible on his jersey. The audio then shifts to what sounds like a voicemail left by his brothers.

“Eight years ago, you were out in Santa Clara watching the Super Bowl. Now you’re playing in it,” the message begins. “So proud of you. Such a great career you started off with. You gotta play lights out like you always have. Big games.”

The brothers reflected on the work that preceded Maye’s rise in New England. “This wasn’t luck, and this was never promised, but here you are after many hours grinding on your craft. All those times we talked about it growing up, you’re here living that dream, man. That’s so special.”

The message closed with a line the family has repeated for years. “As we always say since day one in our household growing up, Maye Way, baby. What we live by. Be the leader. Take control. And show no mercy.”

Maye enters Super Bowl 60 after a season that quickly reshaped New England’s team and expectations. According to PFSN’s Offensive Impact metric, New England posted a grade of 86.6, the second-best mark in the NFL.

The second-year quarterback began the year with some momentum from a promising rookie season. But the Patriots won just four games last year. This season, new head coach Mike Vrabel and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels quickly maximized Maye and the Patriots’ offense.

Vrabel won the NFL’s Coach of the Year. McDaniels was named Assistant Coach of the Year, and Maye finished second in MVP in the closest MVP race in years. Maye also ranked second in PFSN’s QB Impact metric.

Growing up in the Charlotte, North Carolina area, Maye comes from a line of athletes. Luke Maye played basketball at North Carolina, Cole Maye played baseball at Florida, and Beau Maye also competed at UNC. Their message highlighted the competitive environment that surrounded Drake through youth football and high school in North Carolina.

The Patriots face the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday at Levi’s Stadium, the same venue where Maye attended a Super Bowl as a teenager. Now he returns as the starting quarterback. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. ET.
