Dolphins Sign Surprise 14-TD WR To Help Replace Tyreek Hill After Gruesome Injury

The Miami Dolphins finally got their first win of the year against the hapless New York Jets on Monday Night Football, but they left the building in worse shape than they were in when the game started.

Star wide receiver Tyreek Hill suffered a brutal leg injury that will end his season. He tore multiple ligaments and dislocated his knee, including a complete tear of his ACL.

Miami Dolphins Sign Cedrick Wilson To Replace Injured Tyreek Hill

Hill’s injury left the already-thin Dolphins without their best offensive playmaker and in desperate need of some help on offense. As such, the team acted quickly, reuniting with wideout Cedrick Wilson Jr. by plucking him off the New Orleans Saints’ practice squad.

Hill acknowledged fans on social media before the Wilson signing, promising to come back stronger in 2026.

Wilson will likely step into a WR3 competition after coming over from the Saints. He played with the Dolphins from 2022-23.

Wilson has played seven seasons in the NFL since being drafted in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys. He’s played in 83 games, recording 121 receptions for 1,480 yards and 12 touchdowns.

His best season came in 2021, when he recorded a career-high 45 receptions, 602 yards, and six touchdowns. That preceded his free agency tour, which led him to the Dolphins on a three-year, $22.8 million deal.

He wasn’t great in head coach Mike McDaniel’s scheme, playing just two seasons in Miami while catching only 34 passes for 432 yards. He has been with the Saints since 2024.

Wilson won’t be expected to replace Hill’s production, though he could be a solid veteran stopgap while the Dolphins sort through their receiving options in the wake of losing their best playmaker. Jaylen Waddle will be asked to step into the WR1 role for the remainder of the season, while Malik Washington and tight end Darren Waller will serve as secondary options for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in the passing game.

Hill’s injury really stings for an offense that has been middling in the first month of the season. He leads the Dolphins in both receptions (21) and yards (265) through four games, having accounted for more than one-third of Tagovailoa’s passing yards.

The Dolphins are currently the 26th-ranked offense in PFSN’s offensive impact metric, sandwiched between the Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers. Expect them to slide down those rankings as they try to manage Hill’s absence.
