The Miami Dolphins are in about as tough a spot as an NFL team can be through the season’s first four weeks. Not only have they struggled to a 1-3 start, but to make matters worse, they lost their top offensive weapon, Tyreek Hill, to a season-ending injury in their Week 4 win over the New York Jets.
With Hill out for the year, the Dolphins desperately need help at receiver and were recently predicted to make a trade for an NFC superstar to replace him.
Dolphins Predicted to Target NFC Superstar WR After Tyreek Hill Injury
Replacing a player of Hill’s caliber is no easy task. Before his injury, he had been performing at an elite level, totaling 21 catches for 265 yards and a touchdown to start the season. Through three and a half games, he ranks as the fourth-best wide receiver in the NFL according to PFSN’s WRi metric.
Even with Hill’s production, Miami’s offense has been mediocre, sitting 15th in the league according to PFSN’s OFFi metric. With Hill out for the season, that ranking will likely drop unless the Dolphins add talent at receiver.
The good news for Miami is that a superstar receiver could be available, as PFSN’s Josh Weil listed the Dolphins as a potential landing spot for Chris Olave in a trade from the New Orleans Saints.
Weil notes that the Saints, who are 0-4 in 2025, are entering a rebuild and could be looking to move Olave to acquire some draft capital.
The Dolphins would undoubtedly love to add a player of Olave’s caliber. The 25-year-old wide receiver was a first-round pick by the Saints in 2022 and has been the team’s most productive receiver since his arrival. He’s totaled 217 catches for 2,750 yards and 11 touchdowns over 43 career games.
Olave has had a slow start to 2025 on a struggling Saints team. With 26 catches for 185 yards and a touchdown, he ranks 55th among NFL wideouts in PFSN’s WRi metric. A move to Miami could help him get back on track.
The trade looks good on paper, but Miami is also heading toward a rebuild, sitting at 1-3, with the futures of head coach Mike McDaniel, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, and general manager Chris Grier in question.
The team may be hesitant to give up future draft capital to acquire Olave, even with Hill’s injury, preferring to preserve picks for the future. However, with McDaniel and Grier on the hot seat, desperation to save their jobs could make the move possible, so it’s not out of the question.
It remains to be seen whether the Saints will make Olave available for trade and, if they do, whether Miami will be interested in the wideout. That said, Hill’s injury undoubtedly hurts the Dolphins’ offense, and if Olave becomes available, this is a move that makes sense for both teams.
