The Miami Dolphins are at the start of their rebuild, and after releasing most of the pillars of the roster, they sent their most talented player away. WR Jaylen Waddle was traded to the Denver Broncos for 1st, 3rd, and 4th-round picks.
This move by the Dolphins was difficult but necessary for the rebuild. Still, there could be one more player to trade away: De’Von Achane.
NFL World Theorizes That Miami Dolphins Star RB De’Von Achane Could Be Moved Next
At the 2025 trade deadline, the Dolphins were very hesitant to trade away Waddle because they viewed him as an integral piece of the future. That may have been the old regime, but now there is a new GM (Jon-Eric Sullivan) and HC (Jeff Hafley). The new regime may have seen the rest of the roster and decided that moving Waddle would be the better move.
After the deal was done, the topic of Achane, the Dolphins’ star RB, being traded away spread through the NFL world.
Fantasy football and NFL Draft insider Dave Richard brought up the fact that Achane has a year left on his contract, and that could be a reason the Dolphins end up moving him.
We know De’Von Achane is in the last year of his contract.
We know the 2026 draft is light on stud RBs & lots of teams are looking for stud RBs.
And we know the Dolphins are open to moving their top players for picks.
Could we see Achane traded between now and late April?

Richard also listed three potential destinations for Achane that could give him an extension as well.
He wrote on an X post, “Teams with a RB need and cap space to sign Achane to an extension now: Commanders, Titans, Seahawks.”

Fantasy football insider Ian Hartitz broke down the Waddle trade from both sides and added questions about Achane’s future with the team:
Broncos:
-Didn’t seem interested in bidding up on free agent WRs.
-Seemed unlikely one of the top-six WRs got to them at No. 30 in the draft.
-Got Jaylen fooking Waddle.
-Optimizing Bo Nix’s rookie contract.
-Hell yeah, brother.Dolphins:
-WR at No. 11 seems more in play than…

Cleveland Browns insider Matt Fontana praised the Broncos for the Waddle trade and let Miami know they should trade their star RB: “Love this deal for the Broncos.” “Dolphins- get Achane out of there too.”

Philadelphia Eagles writer James Simone pointed out the rumor of the Dolphins moving on from Achane:
Streets are saying the Dolphins might trade DeVon Achane???

NFL analyst Hayden Winks questioned why the Dolphins would keep Achane and added that the 2026 Draft’s RB class being weaker could help with Miami’s potential return in a trade: “What’s even the point of the Dolphins keeping De’Von Achane now? With this RB draft class especially, he has real trade value.”

Dolphins journalist Omar Kelly evaluated the Waddle trade and said fans should not be surprised to see an Achane move next: “Jaylen Waddle was traded to Denver for a first and a third. That’s good value even though it’s a low-round first and a third. Don’t be surprised if De’Von Achane is traded too. This thing is going to the studs.”

Last season, Achane was ranked second in the PFSN NFL RB Impact Metric, which was not the best finish in his young career.

In his rookie season, Achane finished first, and although his sophomore year in the NFL was not as good, mostly due to injuries, he was still excellent.
Achane is turning 25 years old next season, and if the Dolphins trade him, his new team will add one of the most dynamic offensive players in the NFL.
